YouBar is a company that was founded in 2006 by a mother and son.   This entrepreneurial duo (Mother Ava Bise and Son Anthony Flynn) started the company after they found themselves creating their own protein bars at home.  These customized bars were not only tasty but also addressed health and allergy concerns.   Mother and son established themselves in Los Angeles and launched YouBar.   Their trademark concept was and still is today that “you are what you eat, so choose!

Because YouBar believes that you should be able to choose what goes into the food you eat, they allow you, the consumer, to choose not only the ingredients that go into your personalized bar but also the size of the bar.   Each bar comes with the nutrition facts and your chosen bar name is printed on each individual bar package.

YouBar stands behind their product because if you aren’t 100% satisfied with your shipment, a new box will be sent to you free of charge.

For our review, we received a variety box that contained bars named Goji Macadamia, Honey Cashew, Great Date with Chocolate, Breakfast Bar, Cookie Dough, and Training 33.  These bars were shared among several people ranging in age from 5 to 57.   The Cookie Dough bar was “absolutely good” according to our 5- year old and it must have been because he finished it before I could ask for a bite of my own!   He was not as fond of the Breakfast Bar.  That bar is a very rich/dark chocolate.   I tasted it and liked it but I could see why a child would think the bittersweet flavor wasn’t quite as enjoyable as Cookie Dough and some of the other flavors included in our variety pack. My favorite was the Goji Macadamia because of it’s sweet, salty, sour flavor combination.

All of the YouBars we sampled were high in protein, fiber, calcium, and iron.  They were all low in cholesterol, sodium and fat and ranged in calories from 140 to 220.
