Most children are pretty young when their new sibling comes along – often 1.5-4 years old which makes it hard to explain to them what is going on, and to prepare them for the new baby. Drew wasn’t yet two when we found out that his mom was pregnant, so we’ve tried to talk to him about the baby a lot to prepare him as well as we can. There are lots of books out there about getting a new sibling, and the My Friend Paris series of books has a few that are focused around becoming an older sister. In the books, she actually gets twin siblings so they’d be particularly good for children who will be having twins join the family. I was hoping to use these books with Drew, but was only sent one of the books that focuses around her twin siblings, and it was about their first birthday so it doesn’t relate very well to being expecting a newborn. Although it didn’t fit our situation, it’s a cute book and would be great for older siblings who are about to experience their siblings’ birthday party for the first time. Drew is a fan of Elmo, and the book does mention Elmo so he enjoyed that.
The other two books that I received are similar in style, as they are short, simple books about the main character, Paris but they don’t revolve around her twin siblings, although both at least mention them. They are called Paris Goes to Lake Tahoe and Paris Goes To San Francisco. They are short and sweet, making them easy to read from cover to cover even for children with shorter attention spans. Each page only has 2-3 sentences on each side, and they are about 10 pages long each. The pages are brightly colored. I can see them really appealing to girls in about the 4-6 year old age range. Especially girly girls of that age.
The “my twins” series of Paris books are written by a 14 year old girl who is named Paris, so buying these books is a neat way to support a really young artist. You can keep up with My Friend Paris on Facebook.
