Ryan & I are both kind of picky eaters, but we also get bored with eating the same foods. One way that we like to “spice up” our old favorites is with different types of seasonings. This helps us avoid getting bored of a food because it seems different even though the main ingredient is the same.

We were recently able to check out some seasonings that can be used in tons of ways, from Tastefully Simple. But let me back up. Tastefully Simple is a direct sales company that offers unique foods and food related products that are quick and easy to prepare at home. They sell things like cheese ball mixes, drink mixes, soup mixes, fruit spreads and seasoning salts.

There were lots of items that I would love to taste test, but in the end I decided on four types of seasonings. To be honest, I feel like calling them seasonings really doesn’t do them justice. Yes, they can be used just like seasoning salts to add flavor to meat, soup, etc. That isn’t all though. They can be added to cheese balls, chip dips, salads, and more. It’s really quite hard to think of foods that you couldn’t use at least some of these seasonings for.

Garlic Garlic Tastefully Simple

Ryan & I really liked all four of the seasonings we were sent. The Garlic Garlic is a great “in-between” between garlic powder and other traditional garlic seasonings and actual garlic. I notice a big difference between garlic powder and real garlic flavor wise, and that has always bothered me, but I stink at chopping actual garlic as it gets stuck to my fingers and ends up too thick. Garlic Garlic is much more of an authentic garlic flavor than other garlic seasonings that I have tried, but it is of course in seasoning form so it’s really quick and easy to use. I have added this to pizza and soup so far and it was great on both. As you an see in the photo (I hope) the texture of the seasoning is thicker than most garlic seasonings. It also includes spices so it’s more adventurous than just garlic alone.

oniononion

Onion Onion was a seasoning that I primarily got for Ryan, but wound up really enjoying myself as well. I love onions and put them in just about everything we make, it seems. I buy a bag of onions, cut them up, put them in freezer bags and then add them to omelets, soups, casseroles, tacos, pizzas, etc as needed. Ryan enjoys the flavor of onions, but is sensitive to their texture and sometimes I don’t cook them thoroughly enough or don’t cut them into small enough pieces so the mushy texture bothers him. I thought that Onion Onion would be a great way to get the onion flavor without battling the texture, and I was right. We have added this to pizza, soups and tacos so far and it has been great. It has a significant texture for being a seasoning, but softens when cooked. It contains red bell pepper, parsley, chives and other seasoning in addition to the onion flavor so I have enjoyed it just because it adds more variety than the onion flavor alone.

BaconBacon tastefully simple

Bacon Bacon is Ryan’s favorite. We both love bacon, but he has a particular love of macaroni and cheese with bacon flavoring. Being a really frugal person, it bugs me how the bacon flavored mac and cheese boxes are more expensive than the other varieties, and the boxes are smaller, too. I like to use coupons, and coupons almost always exclude the sizes and varieties that include the bacon options, so our primary use of Bacon Bacon has been to turn regular mac and cheese into bacon mac and cheese from home, making Ryan’s love of bacon mac and cheese much cheaper. Though, everything tastes better with bacon added so I’m sure it’s great on other foods as well.

italian garlic bread seasoning tastefully simple

My personal favorite has been the Italian Garlic Bread Seasoning. When Ryan was little, he would put garlic powder and butter on regular slices of toast to make his own “garlic toast” – that of course didn’t taste nearly as good as true garlic toast. Occasionally he will still make this but to me it just tastes too different from garlic bread to taste good to me. This Italian garlic bread seasoning is designed to be combined with butter and used on french bread to make homemade garlic bread. We have had this seasoning at my house for a couple of weeks and have went to the grocery store a couple of times since then but each time I forgot to buy french bread, so we have used this on regular sliced bread instead. While I’m sure it would be really nice on french bread, it’s really good on regular sandwich bread toast as well. Seems how it’s just me and Ryan, it seems silly to make a ton of food for dinner and making garlic toast with regular bread allows us to make just a couple of slices for each of us which is nice. The bottle also suggests using it on pasta which sounds really good, I would definitely like to give that a try in the future. Unlike the other seasonings mentioned above, this seasoning is ground up pretty thin.

Each of the four containers sells for $8.99 each. They can be purchased through direct sales people or from the Tastefully Simple website. You can connect with them on their blog, Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest.
