Technology has evolved so much over the years. I can still remember the first car phone my parents had back in the early 90’s. It was bulky, heavy, and truly a “car” phone since it had to be plugged in. Nowhere near the ease of use that cell phones now provide these days. Technology advances are not just limited to adult products and toys. Our children’s products have also come a long way too. Creative Baby Inc. realizes that children can learn from and with these new advances so they created a product called the I-Mat Set (Pad & Voice Pen) My Animal World.

Creative Baby Inc. sent me a My Animal World I-Mat Set for review. I am typically skeptical of all the jazz around hot new toys because most end up falling short of my expectations. I want a product that will entertain yet enhance learning, something that is durable and yet easy to use. After viewing the information on Creative Baby Inc.’s website, I was hopeful. Once the I-Mat arrived, our children wasted no time in proving any of my doubts to be fruitless.

When the I-Mat arrived, we pulled the contents out of the box. This consists of four Large Square Foam Mat Panels that interlock and a Voice Pen. The kids put the mat together while I grabbed some AAA batteries to put in the pen. I sent our 6 year old out to the garage to get me a small screwdriver but when he got back he held up the bag which included one as well. Next time, I’ll be sure to check all the contents before sending anyone on a tool hunt.

Now we were set to give our Creative Baby I-Mat & Pen a try.  You just hold the power button on the pen about 3 seconds until it turns on.   In the top right corner of the mat, you’ll find the On/Off, Volume Control, Language Options (English, Spanish, or Chinese) as well as two Game Options.  After you have pushed the on button on the pen, head to the top of the mat and tap the on square, language, preference, and game.  If you skip choosing a game, the pen will use the mode where it names and makes the animal sound (or music if that particular item/animal doesn’t make a sound) whatever the pen touches.

The pen will automatically start giving directions.  The kids jumped right in and followed them.  I didn’t have to give any directions once the pen started talking.  The kids had so much fun.  They were super excited and loved following the directions.  I really liked that the I-Mat helps practice listening skills too.

We have been using our Creative Baby Inc. I-Mat daily and the kids still love it.  As you watch the videos, you’ll notice that the kids are given three chances to get a correct answer during the game modes before the game moves on.  I really like that it will skip a direction so the child doesn’t get frustrated.  I also like how the mats are big enough for multiple children to play together.  The best part about this toy is that the mats can be left on the floor and played on daily with no harm to the game since no electronics are located in the mat itself.  The mat is also phthalate-, lead- and heavy metal-free.
