*I was sent a scooter from Ybike for review. All opinions are my own.

Remember this picture? Time goes by so quickly – it’s hard to believe that it’s been 15 months since Drew & I did the Ybike Pewi toddler bike Review. He was so little! In the past 15 months, his Pewi bike has gotten a lot of use and has held up amazingly well – it barely shows any sign of wear. It is still whisper quiet when ridden indoors making it a great way for toddlers to get the wiggles out inside. Drew’s baby sister is now just four days shy of five months old and once she starts walking it’ll make a fun push toy for her.

Drew turned three last week and while he still sometimes enjoys riding on the Pewi, he has really been eyeing scooters in the last few months. My 5.5 and 7.5 year old nephews have “big boy” scooters that have rollerblade-like wheels. My 10 year old sister has a similar one. So he’s been watching all of these kids zip around on scooters and wants to get in on the fun – and tries using them but at 2.5 and now 3, he just doesn’t have the balance to manipulate a scooter which two incredibly skinny wheels. Even on scooters with adjustable handles, they don’t adjust low enough to be at a good height for him. That doesn’t stop him from trying over and over again, though! I knew that Ybike has a toddler/preschooler scooter that uses three wheels instead of two that I thought would be perfect as a third birthday present for him.

Upon opening the present he said “This is my scooter? It’s my scooter? This scooter is mine?” so I could tell he was super excited. The handlebars have to be placed into the base of the scooter, but that’s the only assembly required so he didn’t have to wait to long to play which was really convenient. He tried driving it in the grass and a gravel driveway which doesn’t work very well but he enjoyed it anyway. The handlebars can be pulled to either side and they control the direction of the wheels, allowing you to turn from side to side which is a really neat feature. After just a couple of days of using the scooter, Drew was able to steer his scooter while in motion which is pretty cool. He also really likes the break on it which is above the back tire- he gets going fast and then steps on the break.

I wish that he had a paved driveway or other large, flat surface to ride it on but he doesn’t seem too bothered by just riding it around his deck. He also has rode it inside when it is rainy or chilly outside. Like the Ybike Pewi, it is incredibly quiet even hen ridden indoors. Drew’s dad works nights and sleeps during the day, but it’s so quiet Drew can still play on it. It has black wheels so we weren’t sure if it would scuff or mark the floor inside but it hasn’t made any visible changes to the floor so far, even with Drew intentionally stepping on the break quickly.

The scooter is aimed at kids 2-5 so he has two full years of play left and by then, his sister will be old enough to take it over. It has a weight limit of 44lbs.

Here is a quick video of Drew riding the Ybike GLX.

We’re really happy with the Ybike GLX – it’s the perfect scooter for Drew at his current age and ability level and we love how quiet it is. As you can see from my “action shots” it keeps him busy – so busy that my camera can’t keep up. After now trying two great YBike products, I really love the brand as a whole and wouldn’t hestiate to purchase any of their other products because I would expect the same great quality. If your child is too old or big for the Ybike GLX, Ybike makes a GLX Pro that is for children ages 5+ with a 110 pound weight limit as well.
