air conflicts maximum games logoAir Conflicts Pacific Carriers is a new PS3 game from Maximum Games. Their motto is to bring ‘the maximum amount of fun in the maximum amount of ways’ to the maximum number of people so they actually offers a great variety of video games for PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and 3DS, Nintendo Wii and Wii U, as well as PC games. There are games for young kids as well as games for older kids and adults.

air conflicts graphicsAir Conflicts Pacific Carriers, the game that I received for this review, is rated T which makes sense because it is based on WWII events (so the goal is to destroy/damage the enemy). The game focuses specifically on aircraft and battleships during the war. The game blends flight simulation and arcade-style gaming to bring to life some historically inspired missions. Since the missions are set in the Pacific, players can be on the US Navy or the Imperial Japanese Navy and can choose from over 35 different aircraft/battleships. There is a multi-player option which allows you to play again other people.

I got this game for my husband and here are his thoughts on the game:

He said he likes that there are different types of missions including Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch, Sink the Carrier, Watchtower, and Patrol. He said the effects and the visuals of the bombing raids and dogfights are fairly realistic meaning it takes more than one bomb to sink a carrier and you can still fly your plane even if you’re hit in the wing, etc.

air conflicts 1The game is organized in campaigns which are comprised of 5 battles with different missions and assignments. My husband said he likes that the game follows a historical sequence: the game evolves and the missions are not repetitive. The graphics are also quite nice which is a bonus for me because it makes it more interesting to watch my husband play. It’s also important to have good graphics when you want to offer a realistic and historical representation of what WII aircraft, battleships and weapons were like.

There are enough campaigns to enjoy hours of play with this game. The only glitch we’ve noticed so far is that sometimes, for whatever reason, my husband’s plane is supposedly loaded with torpedoes but he can’t see them or launch them. He gets a message saying they were launched but they never reach their target (not hit the water). When that happens, he can’t reload or anything. The only option is to start that mission again. Fortunately, it doesn’t happen in every torpedo mission.

Overall, Air Conflicts Pacific Carriers is a great game. My husband really enjoys it, not only because the missions are varied but also because of the historical sequence and realistic graphics. It’s also interesting that the game allows you to be on the US side and on the Japanese side.
