Our daughter loves to read at night before falling asleep. I remember doing the same thing growing up except my parents didn’t “allow” it so I read by the red glow of my alarm clock so they wouldn’t know. I don’t want our daughter straining her eyes like that and since we don’t mind that she stays up late reading, I started searching for a lamp for her so she wouldn’t have to get out of bed to shut off the big light when she was done. Well, actually, my husband usually ends up shutting the big light off about 1 AM if he gets up to use the bathroom because she doesn’t like to get out of bed when she’s tired and ends up falling asleep with it on.
I was thrilled when I came across the Home Source Torchiere Floor Lamp at ATGstores.com. I needed a lamp with a small footprint because there isn’t much room between our daughters bed and the closet door and this looked like it would work. I was also interested in finding a lamp that was easy to turn on and off since our eight year old daughter would be the main user. Again, this lamp looked simple with an easy turn off/turn on dial switch. So I decided to try it.
My package arrived quickly from ATG Stores and there was even free shipping since my purchase was over $29.99. I really like when sites offer free shipping with orders because I have walked away from many online carts when I find out the shipping is more than the item I wanted to buy. After the package arrived, I opened it and was pleased to find out that the assembly looked really easy.
The wire is already threaded through the post and you just have to twist it together and then pull the excess cord back down through the bottom. Then the top half-circle piece screwed on to the top of the post. Add a light bulb and you’re done. Takes about five minutes. Very simple and I was doing it but then my husband took over so I could take a couple photos.
Overall, the lamp is perfect for our needs. The base is fairly heavy which makes the lamp quite sturdy, it fits in the small space we have available, and our daughter likes it. It is nice that she now shuts the light off before she falls asleep and we don’t wake up to her big light on anymore.

This is just the kind of lamp we have in my son’s room. I love that it doesn’t hog up the floor space.
That is a fantastic floor lamp! It looks very nice in the room and doesn’t take up a lot of space. And really helps with lighting.
