*I was sent an Elmo chair from Delta Children in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own.

My niece Kelsie was born in March, when Drew was 2 years and 7 months old. He’s adjusted really well and really enjoys his baby sister and almost never shows signs of jealousy or negative emotions towards the baby. A few times he has made comments about how many “seats” Kelsie has and he’s definitely right. She has a car seat, bouncy seat, napper, swing, portable swing, crib, jumparoo, walker, high chair and stroller. That is a lot of furniture compared to his car seat and bed, so it’s not surprising that he’s noticed. A couple of months ago when they moved, Drew got his own bedroom so I thought it would be neat to get him a chair of his very own to help increase excitement about having his own room and perhaps also help him feel like he has one special chair of his own. As an Elmo lover, I knew he would love the Delta Children Giggle Upholstered Chair so I was excited to test it out with him for review.

When it arrived, the box seemed pretty small so I thought it would need assembled but it didn’t. The chair is nice and wide but rather short which is great for younger children because they don’t have to “climb” into it. It has a polyester fabric covering over the wooden frame, which is really soft. I noticed that sometimes while sitting in the chair watching TV he’ll “pet” the arms without really thinking about what he’s doing – it’s that soft! I love that the frame is wooden so it is really durable – an important quality for any product given to a 3 year old boy. There is a button on one of the arms that plays Elmo’s giggle when pressed that thankfully isn’t real loud because Drew likes to push it over and over and over again.

Please excuse Drew’s dirty jeans, arms, face and hands – he had been painting earlier that day.

Despite being recommended for ages 3-6, it has an 80lb weight limit and is rather wide so it will hold a lot of kids over age 6 too, as my petite 10 year old sister is still well under 80lbs. It’s also so low to the ground that as soon as babies can walk (or maybe even crawl) they could get themselves into this seat. The arms are high (so the seat is “deep”) – so I personally would feel comfortable letting babies sit in this as long as I was nearby and they could sit up well. Kelsie can’t sit up on her own yet but sits up well with support so we put her in the seat just for size comparison (and her mom was within arms reach). I think in a few months she’ll be able to enjoy this seat with ease and probably take it over once Drew outgrows his interest in Elmo or physically outgrows the chair.

The chair is lightweight enough that Drew (who just turned 3 last month) can carry this chair on his own. He carries in to the living room so he can watch cartoons and then back to his bedroom to play or read in it. I could tell from how much he uses the chair that he really enjoys it but just for fun, I thought I’d ask Drew to express his thoughts on the chair. Check them out in the video below.

Delta Children has two toddler beds, wooden desk, three tables, toy box, and book and toy organizer in their Sesame Street collection that Drew would love to own.
