First off, I absolutely love our family doctor.  However, I prefer to admire him from afar and see him in person as little as possible.  So I tend to try natural and alternative methods on our family before seeking him out and we’ve saved ourselves many trips to the doctors office because of it.  Thankfully, he is quite supportive in the way that we choose to doctor and, while he may not agree with everything I think, he tells me his opinion and then respectfully lets me make a decision.  I feel very blessed to have such a great relationship with our doctor.

In my quest for natural alternatives, I recently came across TheNourish.com and had the pleasure of working with Tricia on this review and giveaway.  Tricia sent me a book called “Modern Essentials: A Contemporary Guide To The Therapeutic Use Of Essential Oils” as well as a few samples of the following oils: On Guard, Lavender, Wild Orange, Balance, and Past Tense.

Of course, within a couple days of receiving, our kids were exposed to a virus in the church nursery.  First, our almost 4 year old got sick.  He was tired and threw up once but that was the end of it.  So here I was thinking maybe it wouldn’t be so bad and then day two hit.  Now our 2 year old was sick.  He ran a fever as well as threw up and then I noticed sores in his mouth.  It turns out that they were exposed to Hand Foot Mouth Disease, which has been going around local daycares like crazy in our area.  Since we don’t typically go many places, we’ve been fairly protected and I hadn’t been worried but, I come to find out, there was a child in the nursery with our boys who had it.  Day three rolls around and now our 2 year old and 7 year old are both sick with all the same symptoms.  This was the day I spoke with Tricia and she suggested I use the On-Guard to actively fight this.  So I applied some to the bottoms of the boy’s feet as well as down their spines.  Then I also ran some On-Guard  through our diffuser.  All of these methods seemed to help as the boys started feeling better later that same day.  Their fevers and mouth sores went away and they became more active.  While I can’t be 100% certain that the On-Guard was the cure, it coincided perfectly with its use.  After two very sleepless nights of about an hour each (for both my husband and myself), I was grateful that everyone was feeling better and our daughter never got any symptoms.
