Brilliant Sky Toys & Books provided the review & giveaway toys in this blog post. All opinions are my own.
Have you ever given in and purchased a toy that your child (or a child in your life) saw advertised repeatedly and begged for for weeks – only to have it find its way to the bottom of the toy box after 10 minutes of play? I know I have. I feel that children often feel that they want items that they see repeatedly advertised without really knowing how engaging they will find the item once they own it. I try to ignore those “Ohh I want that!” requests that stem from advertising and instead pay attention to the items that they spend the most time playing with at home, at friends’ houses and even in the store. For me, the best scenario is when we find a toy that they really like and will get tons of play time out of that is also educational or beneficial in some way.
Brilliant Sky Toys & Books is a small chain of toy stores that believes in the value of open-ended play and high quality toys. Their 17 stores are full of unique, engaging, high quality toys that you may not have seen before. They have created a list of 10 products that they believe to be the “best of the best” for the 2014 holiday shopping season. This years list includes:
- Squigz Starter Set (24 pieces)
- Plus-Plus Mini-Basic (480 pieces)
- Lottie Dolls
- Doodle Quest
- Create Your Own Storybook
- Super Stadium Baseball Game
- LoopDeLoom
- Sew Cute Sets
- Illustrated Adventure Stories and Illustrated Fairy Tales
- Paint Your Own Porcelain Bowls
I have a big family but I can see myself giving every single one of these items as gifts for a child I know! Such a great group of toys. My niece loves the rainbow loom bracelets, so I am excited to give her the Loop De Loom as a challenge to take her craft to the next step. My 6 year old niece likes dolls but it’s hard to find some that are appropriately dressed. I love how the Lottie dolls are created based on a real-life child’s body proportions and is dressed as a typical child would dress. My nephew is very creative and loves building kits, so I know that the Plus Plus Mini kit will give him a new material to create with in new ways.
There are 17 Brilliant Sky Toys & Books stores including one that is about an hour and a half away from me. I don’t get to that area except once every few years but checking out a Brilliant Sky Toys & Books location in person is on my bucket list. I love high quality, unique toys and would love to see their selection in person. If you have a location near you, definitely check them out for holiday shopping.

I really like the Plus-Plus Mini-Basic (480 pieces) so that all my kids could play together

Illustrated Adventure Stories and Illustrated Fairy Tales an Create Your Own Storybook would be sooo hard to choose! I would probably go with the Fairy Tales, but the Create your own storybook sounds like it would be a ton of fun for my kiddos too!
