Pearls are really an amazing. Formed by the simple act of irritants, such as sand, getting inside the oysters body and the subsequent reaction. To ease the discomfort, the oyster coats the irritant with layers of calcium carbonate and ends up forming the amazing iridescent pearl. We were just learning about how pearls were formed in our homeschooling adventures when I came upon Enthroned Empress.
