LapDawg Pug laptop tray desk

*I was sent a LapDawg Pug laptop tray & desk. All opinions are my own.

As a blogger I find myself using my laptop for long periods of time each day. Over the last few years I’ve tried a variety of desks, chairs, back pillows and other accessories to try to find the perfect position for me and my laptop. I eventually came to realize that there isn’t any perfect position for remaining comfortable on my computer for long periods of time. I end up with less back and neck pain if I am able to change positions throughout the day when I start feeling uncomfortable. This made me realize that having a desk that had the ability to adjust into different positions would be ideal.

I came across the LapDawg Pug computer tray and I have to admit the name caught my eye. I have two pugs and have said many times that if you look up lap dog in a dictionary you’d find a picture of my pugs. They are clingy dogs who want to be on my lap or right next to me as often as possible.

Once I started looking over the features of the LapDawg Pug I thought it would be perfect for me. It can be adjusted into several positions. It folds up into just a tray that you can rest on a bed, table, desk or on your legs. Or, you can fold the legs out to make it into a small desk that holds itself over your lap when sitting on the floor, a couch or a bed if you leave the legs on the bed. If you want to use the LapDawg Pug while sitting in a computer chair, or if you want the desks legs to be on the floor while you’re sitting on the edge of a couch or bed then you can extend the legs to be taller yet. When it’s fully extended in height, it’s a bit top heavy and wobbly so I am careful not to bump into it while it’s fully extended, but I’ve never had it tip over.

The tray has an indent for a cup holder, and with my laptop that is roughly 16″, it has plenty of space on either side to hold other items. I can slide my laptop to one side so I have space for a plate, notepad and paper, etc on the other side.

The tray can also double as a breakfast or food tray for a fun breakfast in bed or even long term use for anyone who is bed ridden as a result of health problems.

The tray has a fan inside that can be used to cool your laptop if it overheats. I haven’t used this function yet because my laptop doesn’t have trouble with overheating.

Lapdawg pug angle positions

The center of the tray can lifted up and positioned at your choice of three angles. This portion of the tray also has pop-out tabs that can hold your laptop, tablet, book or magazine in place while being angled upright. While this function would be great for angling a tablet or book upright so you can read without holding it, I use it upside down with my laptop sometimes. I position the desk backwards so my laptop is angled downward a little bit. While it wouldn’t be good on my neck to look down like this for a long time, I like using it this way for short periods of time to change things up sometimes.

I primarily blog from bed and I regularly use it in three positions – the primary position being in mid-height mode over my legs. Then I use it with the legs collapsed in two main ways – with the tray on my bed in front of me with my laptop angled up or with the tray resting on my legs.

My laptop hinge broke and I have attached L bracket (which was designed to hold a shelf against a wall) over my laptop to hold it open and in place. Yes, I’m cheap but my laptop is over 3 years old, I paid $200 for it back then and to have the parts replaced would be $70 not including labor so for now the L brackets that I got for $2 at home depot work just fine. Unfortunately, I didn’t think about how the hinges would be rubbing against the LapDawg Pug tray and they scratched the surface of the tray. I don’t think my computer would have scratched the tray at all if it weren’t for the hinges I have, so I feel this is fully my fault and not a defect of the tray itself.

I have been using the LapDawg Pug for over a month now and still use it everyday. Each day I change it into two or three different positions throughout the day to keep myself comfortable. I love how easy it is to change from one angle or position to the next. It folds up to just a few inches thick so I can place it up against the wall behind a door  or into a closet for storage with ease. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to use a a laptop tray or desk from bed.
