I have been provided with a Nutrisystem plan in exchange for sharing my honest experience and results on my blog. All opinions are my own.
Welcome to our week 7 Nutrisystem update. Ryan lost an additional 1.5 pounds, bringing his weight down to 233, and his total weightloss to 25.5 pounds!
Since starting Nutrisystem almost two months ago, Ryan has been asked the same questions over and over by friends and family members. I’ve also gotten a few emails, tweets and facebook messages from you guys asking me questions about Nutrisystem. I thought it would be neat to have this week’s post cover those commonly asked Nutrisystem questions that Ryan has been getting. If you have other questions about Nutrisystem that are not answered below, feel free to send me an email, comment or social media message and I’ll try to get Ryan’s answer for you.
Does Nutrisystem Food taste good & other commonly asked questions about Nutrisystem answered
Is the food good?

By and large yes.  I’m a picky eater and I’ve been surprised how much of the food I genuinely like. There are somethings that I don’t care for, but those are primarily the noodle or pasta based frozen meals and it’s usually more the texture of the noodles than the flavor itself. I like several of the soups or shelf-stable pasta offerings from Nutrisystem so it’s really just the frozen pasta meals that bother me. This issue isn’t limited to Nutrisystem for me, I wouldn’t purchase any frozen pasta meals from any brand because I am sensitive about texture. If you are at all picky about texture I would generally avoid any noodle foods outside of soups.

Are you hungry all the time?

Shockingly no. I could get hungry during the Fast 5 first week but then I’d just eat some of the non-starchy vegetables (non-starchy vegetables are unlimited on Nutrisystem). In the normal diet the only times I really get hungry can be in the mornings if I slept for a much longer than usual or didn’t realize I forgot to eat my last desert the night before. Nutrisystem has taught me a lot about portion control. In the past if I got hungry at all I’d basically fill my stomach to capacity, and you just don’t need to do that at all to avoid hunger. Nutrisystem has made me realize that I need to focus on avoiding being hungry instead of always wanting to feel “full”. Seeing myself eat much less food and still not feel hungry has finally gotten that concept through my thick skull.

Does your plan include the same meals every month?

I am on the Men’s Uniquely Yours plan and it lets me choose my foods. I am sent 28 breakfast entrees, 28 lunch entrees and 28 dinner entrees, and 56 desserts per month. I do have to choose 18 shelf-stable options and 10 frozen options for each meal, but as long as I stay within those guidelines I can order whatever meals I like.

Do you have to stay on the plan forever?

No. This seems to be a common misconception about Nutrisystem because it sends your meals to you. Of course, you will only continue to lose weight (or avoid re-gaining weight) if you learn to adapt your ongoing diet to be similar to the Nutrisystem plan. If you lose weight on Nutrisystem and then stop the plan and go back to eating the way you did pre-Nutrisystem, then you will gain weight back. I already feel like I’ve learned so much about nutrition and portion control through this program that I have no doubt that I will be able to avoid going back to the way I was before Nutrisystem.

How much do you eat per day?

My plan includes three entrees (breakfast, lunch and dinner) each day plus two “desserts” which are basically snacks that are sent to me from Nutrisystem. I also have to purchase “smartcarbs” and “powerfuels” from the grocery store to supplement the Nutrisystem plan. Smartcarbs are nutrient-rich carbohydrates that register low on the glycemic index and are roughly 100 calories each. Examples include a piece of whole wheat toast, starchy vegetables, and some fruits. Powerfuels are high quality proteins and healthy fats. Examples of these include nuts, lean meats, eggwhites, low-fat yogurt and low-fat cheese. My plan includes three powerfuels and two smartcarbs a day. I am supposed to eat one powerfuel with breakfast, a powerfuel and a smartcarb with lunch and a one smartcarb and one powerful for a morning snack. It’s also recommended that I drink 64oz of water a day and get at least 4 servings of non-starchy veggies per day.

Is there anything you can never eat?

Yes. Nutrisystem is designed to provide you with specific guidelines for what you do and do not eat each day so the only items that are allowed on the plan outside of Nutrisystem provided foods, SmartCarbs and PowerFuels are zero calorie items such as broth and diet sodas.
On a scale of 1-10, 10 being hardest, how hard is adjusting to Nutrisystem?
I would say 2-3. Now this is all very subjective, if you are living with people who aren’t supportive and you see tempting food around all the time then I think any diet will be very hard at the beginning when you a transitioning. On the other hand, If you have a good support system I’d describe Nutrisystem as relatively easy due to the pre-packaged meals because it takes away your choices leaving less of the responsibility on you.
Have you noticed any changes in your body as a result of Nutrisystem?
I’ve definitely noticed changes in my body as a result of my weightloss, but I haven’t noticed any changes in the way my body functions as a result of Nutrisystem – no headaches, digestive issues or anything like that.

What motivates you to keep going on Nutrisystem?

The fact that it’s so doable. It hasn’t been very hard for me to keep up with so I haven’t really had the desire to give up. Nutrisystem really isn’t hard, if I stop losing weight on this diet or quit it I have nothing to blame but myself. I don’t feel deprived or hungry.
Do you have to exercise while on Nutrisystem?

30 minutes of exercise is recommended while on Nutrisystem. I have been doing 1 hour workouts every other day instead because that system just feels more natural to me and it gives my muscles a day to rest which I appreciate sometimes when I wake up sore from the previous days workout.

I’ve been reading about Ryan’s weight loss with Nutrisystem and missed the first few posts about the program so good to hear about the plan, the food and the facts of the program. I have such a sensitive gut I need to skip meals sometimes and I’m sure that’s not a good thing on the program. It sounds like he’s doing really well on this so far.
