Thank you to Best Nest Box for providing me with product, free of charge, in exchange for this honest blog review. All opinions are 100% my own.

Last February we took a leap and adopted twelve chicks. We had never raised any kind of farm animal. This was a new and exciting adventure for us. The chicks were just a couple days old when we brought them home. They were so cute!

We had been thinking about getting chickens for quite a while. The home we had just purchased, once had raised pigs on it. We decided it would be fairly easy for us to convert the old boars nest into our chicken coop. We framed it in and put on some reclaimed barn siding, a recycled window, a few roosting bars and a new dutch door. Then we added a chicken run to the side of the coop.

Next, we needed nesting boxes. I had seen an ad for a nesting box that I really wanted to try in our coop. I contacted the Best Nest Box company and shared our story with them. They were happy to send me their Medium Rollaway Box for our review.

The difference between Best Nest Box and other nesting boxes is that the Best Nest Boxes have a slight angle to the floor of the box. This allows the eggs to gently roll away from the hens’ reach, into a secure storage tray. The storage tray keeps the eggs clean and safe from other chickens eating them and walking all over them.

The Best Nest Box has a few other features that make it great. Each box comes with nesting pad that rests on a wire mesh tray allowing for air circulation. The pad can be removed for easy cleaning. The front of the nesting box has vinyl flaps for mood lighting and security. Each box also has a roosting bar on the front. The roosting bar lifts to expose the egg storage tray.

The Best Nest Box arrives with some assembly required. Putting it together is fairly easy and doesn’t take a lot of time. The Best Nest box can be set up for free-standing use or mounted to a wall.  You can also customize your nesting box for front or rear roll out; whichever direction works best for your coop. We decided to have the eggs roll to the front for now. We may change this in the future so that we don’t have to go into the coop to collect eggs.

The Medium Best Nest Box is 24″ length, 21″ width and 21″ height. This box can accommodate up to 20 hens.

Five months after bringing our chicks home, they started laying eggs. At first, it was only one egg a day. Then two, three and now we are getting on average four eggs a day. I am told that in a couple more weeks, all twelve chickens should be laying.

I absolutely love that I am able to collect clean and fresh eggs every day. The Best Nest Box is everything I had hoped it would be!

I follow many preppers and homesteaders who raise chickens and enjoy reading about it. I’m in an apartment now so I can’t personally have my own, but can see how great it would be to have your own organic eggs.

This sounds like the perfect nesting box! I love the angled floor feature that allows the eggs to be seperated and keeps them clean and safe. 🙂 We hope to get our own chickens someday as well!
