I was sent a Seagate Duet Portable Drive for review. All opinions are my own.
Even before I started blogging I took a lot of photos. Now that I blog, I take even more. When it comes to capturing memories I’d rather err on the side of documenting too much when possible. With more people using phones or tablets in the place of computers, keeping your photos stored without running out of space is getting more difficult. Even computer users can struggle with storage space. I had owned my new laptop for about five or six months the first time that I got a notification that I was running out of storage!
Using portable drives or cloud storage is something that almost all of us have to rely on now. I prefer to rely on both for added security. Several years ago we had a portable hard drive get damaged and we lost a few years worth of photos which was devastating! Having an added layer of backup gives me much more peace of mind.
The Seagate Duet Portable Drive is a cloud-syncing portable hard drive. In other words, it is a portable hard drive that is designed to work with a cloud storage service. I have been an Amazon Prime member for years so I was excited to see that Seagate partnered with Amazon drive. When you purchase a Seagate Duet you will be gifted a 1 year subscription to Amazon drive which is a $59.99 value.
When you load files onto your Seagate Duet they will automatically be backed up on your Amazon Drive account. Once your files are loaded onto the Duet, you can just plug it in to your computer access your files. Or from your phone or device you can access the Amazon drive app to get to your photos that are on the device.
It provides 1 terrabyte of storage space which is huge. The file size of photos varies depending on file type and your camera. However just as a rough example, my point-and-shoot camera takes photos that are around 2.3MB in size each. 1 TB of storage will hold approximately 366 thousand photos of that size.
I love how the Seagate Duet is really compact. It fits perfectly in my hand, or in a pocket or purse making it practical to keep on you while on the go.
