Snow joe snow blower review

I was sent a Snow Joe iON18SB snow blower for review. All opinions are my own.

Snow joe electric snow blower review

Michigan winters can bring pretty tough weather. We like living outside of town, so our driveway is long enough that shoveling it would take a really long time, and a ton of effort. We don’t own a plow, and the going rate for having your country driveway plowed out is $30. One weekend in mid December we got about 10 inches of snow over the course of 3 days, 3-4 inches per day. We would have had to dish out $90 just that one weekend so we could get out each day! So for us, paying that kind of money each time it snows just is not practical.

We decided that a snow blower would be a much more economical way to clear our driveway. We were sent the Snow Joe iON 18SB snow blower to review and we’ve absolutely loved it. It’s been used roughly 10 times now even though we’ve only had it about 4 weeks. I go over many of the bragworthy features in this unboxing video. Ryan said I talked too quickly because he wasn’t able to get it out of the box by the time I was done. Oops!

As I mentioned in that first video, there are many awesome features for the iON 18SB snow blower. It’s electric so there is no gas to keep on hand. It also doesn’t need any oil! The fact that it is electric allows for a more lightweight design at just 32 pounds as well. Turning it on is as simple as pressing a button. The handle is adjustable to accommodate people of different heights. The chute rotates 180 degrees so that you can throw the snow in whichever direction you need. It can clear a path 18 inches wide and up to 8 inches deep with each pass.

Here is a video showing the body of the snow blower up close.

So far the most we have cleared is about 4 inches at once but it has no problem at all keeping up with that. We are a few miles outside of town so the driveway is longer and it goes up a hill. The battery lasts long enough for the entire drive, though sometimes the battery has to cool down for a few minutes before it keeps going. It has a safety feature that will automatically turn it off if it gets too warm. At first we thought it had run out of power but after a few minutes with the battery case being opened it would go back to running for 15+ more minutes. Some days Ryan has completed our entire drive, plus a small turn-around area in the yard without overheating, and other days he’s gotten 90% done or so before it needs a cool down.

Here is Ryan clearing about 3 inches of snow with the Snow Joe iON 40 volt iON18SB snow blower.

We’re only about half-way through winter weather here in Michigan and we’ve already used the snow blower about 10 times. As I mentioned, having a driveway plowed costs about $30 in my area so we would have paid $300 to have it plowed 10 times. This snow blower is currently $303.99 on Amazon, meaning that for us this snow blower would essentially pay for itself through savings on plowing in just half of one winter.
