Beans playing outside

My pug Beans is now 13 years old. Based on that old “7 years for every 1” rule, that would make her 91 in human years! However, many online charts factor in your dogs size, as smaller dogs tend to have longer life expectant. Based on those charts, a 13 year old small dog is about 68. Either way, she is not a young pup, that is for sure!

I’m thankful that she’s in good health overall, although her age certainly shows more some days than others. In particular, she struggles with joint pain and arthritis sometimes. It acts up worse in the winter, and it seems to act up worst in the morning or after she takes a long nap. It’s almost as if her joints get stuck while she’s sleeping and it takes her a few minutes to “wake up” after she does.

Therabis Dog Supplements

CBD Supplements For Dogs

As humans age, we often turn to vitamins and supplements to give us the extra support that we need. I decided to try out Therabis Up And Moving supplement for Beans. Therabis products are hemp-derived CBD (cannabinoid) supplements. Did you know that while hemp is sometimes used as a nickname for marijuana, they are NOT the same plant? In fact, they are quite different. Hemp is produced for industrial applications such as paper, fiber and nutrition. By law, it has less than .3% THC by law (while marijuana is higher in THC). This difference in THC levels is why people and dogs cannot experience a high when they consume hemp-derived products.

However, hemp is a cannabanoid supplement which means Therabis interacts with your dogs endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system is known to affect bodily processes like digestion, mood and sleep. If you still have questions, the Therabis FAQ page is a great resource.

Up and running

Therabis Dog Supplements

The Therabis Up And Moving supplement that we tried is made from whole-plant cannabinoids, hemp powder, green lipped mussel, vitamin C, chromium and vitamin E. These are designed to help pets who have arthritis or joint pain that makes walking, going up stairs or jumping difficult. Beans has had a hard time jumping for about six months now, but she can jump and go up steps without pain unless she just woke up. Her bouts of pain have always come in bursts, but since trying Therabis Up And Moving it seems like she wakes up far less frequently with pain. I love that therabis is not a pill because my dogs don’t take pills very well. It’s simply a powder that you can stir into their food whether you feed kibble, canned, raw, etc. Beans gladly eats her kibble with the Therabis dog supplements mixed in. I appreciate how the supplement comes in individual packets so you just tear the top off and pour the supplement into their regular food. They would also be really convenient for people who travel with pets because you could just take four if you’re going on a four day trip, and there is no mess.

I know that slowing down is just part of the aging process, to some extent. However, I want to give Beans the best quality of life she can have, for as long as she can have it. I know that she’s happier when she can get around without arthritis/pain slowing her down. When she feels up to it, she still loves to run and play and I will cherish that as much as we can. I want to give her longer walks, more running, more playing and less pain. She wants to be active, she just needs to feel good enough to bring that out of her. We aim to give her a healthier life in many ways, including monitoring her food and weight, feeding high quality food, engaging her in play, regular vet visits, and now, Therabis too. That is wonderful that they have are product like this for older dogs! I have Rheumatoid Arthritis so I know what it feels like to have aches and pains. As a dog it’s hard to tell us so it’s great that they can get some relief through these supplements. Thank you so much for sharing! 🙂

I might have to give these a closer look. I have always had larger breeds and yes they stay with us until the ‘end’. Our last dog was chow chow and she was given baby aspirin, this was before supplements became the norm for animals. Our current dog Odin is now 14 and he is frosty faced and getting stiff. If these work I might try them.

Arthritis is like that. My joints tend to be stiff in the mornings or when I sit too long. Hope this helps your pup.

I have not heard of this before. I will have to tell my sister. Thank you for the review.

  • Beans is adorable! I need to get some of these for my eleven year old lab. She is doing well now but I dread the day when she struggles to get up or doesn’t want to play outside.

  • These sound great. It make sense that dogs would need extra nutrition just like we do. I’ll have to check this out.

  • What a great supplement. We need senior vitamins as we get older, and I can see how something like that would benefit a dog as well. I think it’s great that there are so many companies dedicated to helping pets live longer, happier lives.

  • We use Calm and Quite but I want to try Up and Moving as our Lyla is also a senior dog. I swear by Therabis! I need to call them and ask if we can use both types for our Lyla!

  • This sounds like a great supplement for aging dogs. I will definitely have to look into this, my sweet girl just turned six but it’s never too wary to start doing research!

  • That’s great they have products like these for pets. It’s wonderful that there are supplements to help our pets through things like the aging process. Glad you found something for your adorable pug! Our pets are a big part of our family too, and we want them to be happy and healthy 🙂

I haven’t heard this before, but I think my sister’s dog would need this. I will go to share it with her.

  • I think it’s really important that we prepare everything they need as they grow older. It’s good to have supplements to make sure they get all the nutrients that their aging body needs. This sounds amazing! Your pug is SO adorable!!!

  • This is so good to know about, I have a senior dog that needs to take supplements. I am all about trying this, thanks for sharing!
