Thank you to Automatic Chicken Coop Door for providing me with products in exchange for this honest blog review. All opinions are 100% my own.

We have had backyard chickens for about a year and a half. In that time, we have lost ten of nineteen chickens. The ten we lost, were eaten by coyotes. Two of those ten were taken in the middle of the day while we were at home. With the coyotes getting braver and braver, we had to quit letting our chickens free-range. We made their chicken run completely enclosed and predator proof. We also got an Automatic Chicken Coop Door.

The Automatic Chicken Coop Door is powered and has a timer. This enables us to set the timer to open and close at a specific time each day. Installing the Automatic Chicken Coop Door was relatively easy; it comes with instructions. Luckily, the opening for our previous chicken coop door was almost exactly the same size that we needed for the Automatic Chicken Coop Door.

We did have an issue with the powered door opener. We watched the installation video to make sure we had installed it correctly. After a bit of trouble shooting, the issue was easily resolved!

To know how to set the timer on the Automatic Chicken Coop Door, I watched our chickens. For a few days, I took notes of when I could hear the rooster crowing in the morning and when I saw them migrate towards the door in the evenings. This helped me figure out their rituals. I ended up setting the door to open at 7:00 am (a respectable time for the rooster to be outside making noise) and to close at 9:00 in the evening. As the time changes and the colder months arrive, I will likely change these times to 8:00 am and 7:00 pm. I will again watch the chickens to see what they do.

I absolutely love our Automatic Chicken Coop Door. It gives me peace of mind and removes a farm chore from my daily to-do list.

The Automatic Chicken Coop Door might NOT just be for chickens! Our Nigerian Dwarf Goats have snuck into the chicken run when we feed and water the chickens. The goats have no problems going in and out of the Automatic Chicken Coop Door. I am really thinking about getting another Automatic Chicken Coop Door for the goats shed!

What a great idea. I don’t have chickens. I have thought about it but don’t know how to raise them and we have coyotes too. I am glad the door works for you and the chickens.

This is a good solution for your situation. I have a friend who has chickens in the city but she doesn’t let them free range. Still it’s a great idea for keeping them safe.

I do not have chickens our city has yet to allow it. There has been debates about it though. I think this door would be ideal. Coyotes and other mammals that prey on chickens would be hesitant to use it. The only ones who might be so bold are raccoons and you didnt mention the. We have cat doors all over for the ferals and the raccoons try and use them and can most imes. I love your goats!

Glad the automatic door is working well for you. No intentions to have chickens of my own.

Oh Laurie, that is so cool. I really want to have chickens. We live in a slightly shabby suburb of LA and the old guy down the block has some. My husband is still skeptical.

Wow, what a great idea! I love that you can set it to any time that you need! I can definitely see why this would be very helpful to anyone who owns chickens/roosters. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

  • This is a good idea we have skunks getting our chickens

I will tell my relatives about the automatic chicken coop door as they have chickens.

Awe your goat is so cute. We are hoping to star our small farm soon and I think this sounds perfect! It is great that it gives you piece of mind.

What a great idea and I love how easy this door was to put up. And your goat is cute, he probably wants one to.
