The age recommendation is 4 plus. I (emily) haven’t seen these in person but my 5 year old niece has regular sized squinkies that are pretty small as well. I can imagine that these would require a lot of fine motor skills seems how they are even smaller. That being said, for the larger squinkies my 5 year old niece, 8 year old sister and 2 year old nephew all LOVE them and get tons of play out of the “bubble gum machine” set that my niece has. We have to watch the 2 y/o closely though as they would be a choking hazard if he tried to chew them but he loves them so much, so i basically just sit and stare at him while he plays with these to make sure he’s safe. He loves taking them in and out of the shells and then filling the bubble gum machine with the shells and emptying them, putting them back in, dumping again, over and over. He’ll stay interested in the set for 30+ minutes.

I am curious as to the age recommendation on the package.(Sorry, I just saw it. That’s what I get for skimming the article) The fine motor skills required are beyond most children 4 and under. The tiny pieces seem smaller than those recommended for young children. We had some tiny play set when our children were young and our grandchildren play with them now, but not until they are old enough to handle it.
The sets do look like fun for children who can sit still long enough.
