The giveaway here at Emily Reviews is sponsored by Nature’s Own. Ryan & I recently tried out a selection of Nature’s own products for the first time. The Nature’s Own brand makes bread products that don’t use high fructose corn syrup, HFCS, artificial preservatives, colors or flavors. They also do not contain trans fat or cholesterol. I love the idea of switching to better for you foods, I was just concerned about the taste. Here’s how our taste testing shook out:
100wholeGrain
Ryan can be picky about sandwich breads, particularly wheat breads. When reading about Nature’s Own Whole Grain Bread, I liked a few of the benefits. I recently have been looking into product types, nutrition and calories. I had read that something to keep an eye out for was products that are 100% whole grain instead of just whole grain, because products can be labeled whole grain and only have a portion of whole grains in them, where as 100% whole grain products are just that, and are a more nutritious option. So I liked that right away, but I wasn’t sure if Ryan would be okay with the bread. One day while making toast I used the Nature’s Own bread. I did notice that after being toasted, the overall piece of bread was smaller than other brands we buy – it would just barely fit a piece of sandwich cheese on it. Ryan never said anything about the taste or texture, so I’m not sure he even noticed the switch which is a huge win in my book. We were also sent Nature’s Own Honey Wheat Bread, which didn’t have much of a honey flavoring to me, which I was actually kind of happy about because I like my sandwich bread to be pretty plain.
PlainTSB3
I also tried Nature’s Own Thin Siced Bagels. I liked these because they can easily fit in a toaster, even one that isn’t designed to be used with Bagels. They also were a bit softer than some other bagels, which I liked. I don’t typically buy plain flavored bagels, but these one seemed plain to me. Though this could easily be because they were the plain variety which I wouldn’t typically buy in any brand.
OatmealToastersCranberryOrange-01
Ryan wasn’t a big fan of the Cranberry Orange Oatmeal Toasters that we were sent, but he isn’t a fan of cranberry. He said the orange flavoring was very faint.
cinnamonRaisinSwirlBread
We like to buy Cinnamon Raisin bread, but had never tried the Nature’s Own variety. We were thrilled that it tasted just as good as the other brands we were familiar with, considering it doesn’t have high fructose corn syrup or artificial preservatives. It is a good source of vitamins A, D and E as well as calcium. So we’ll gladly make the switch to this better-for-you brand now.
Overall we were happy with the brand and were happy to find a few options that meet our taste standards while being more natural options. I just wish these products were available in stores here in michigan. Right now, Nature’s own is primarily available in the south but I hope they will come to Michigan soon. We’d definitely make the switch if we could purchase this from our local supermarkets.
