Isn’t the whole idea to take it straight from the
freezer to the oven there. Why did you thaw it?
I totally agree with you about the odd taste. I’ve always had a Butterball or a store market brand. This was the first Jennie-O whole turkey which we defrosted for a few days in the fridge. It had a weird taste and wondered whether it was antibiotics used to raise or treat the bird, but it did also had an unusual after-taste. Perhaps, juts a matter of preference.
