My mom was born in the mid 60’s and had really curly hair as a child. They tried all sorts of things to kinda ‘tame’ hers or make it more manageable. I use a cotton t-shirt to dry my hair now, that’s sort of common among girls doing the curly girl method. A lot of the ‘hair towels’ are microfiber so they have less texture (and therefore create less friction) than using a traditional towel, but a basic cotton t-shirt has even less ‘texture’ than microfiber. So, I’ve stolen a handful of my boyfriends old shirts, and they are my hair towels now, haha.

If you google something like ‘before and after curly girl method’ there are a lot of people who have as dramatic (or more!) differences as I’ve had. My hair was almost straight before I started the curly girl method so if yours has waves now, it would probably be curlier than mine with the curly girl method.
]]>Thank you :). Part of my results said that I need more protein, so I think part of my ‘bad day’ curls could be the lack of protein. I’m going to try to add in a haircare product with protein soon to see if it increases how often I have good days. 🙂
I’ve heard a lot of people say that their hair changed with pregnancy or while in the postpartum phase. My hair seemed to change after I started hormonal birth control which is part of why I had brought up my concerns with my doctor, but she didn’t seem to think birth control can change your hair. So I’m still baffled at why my hair would change at age 23. Seemed pretty random to me! When I was younger my hair was sometimes ‘poofy’ (with humidity and such) but it had been shiny and sleek and then suddenly got dull and frizzy. I still don’t get why that would be.
]]>Yeah that is really hard to guess if it’s how you’re caring for it, or if it might just be natural changes in her hair as she gets older. The curly girl method can be pretty elaborate and some parts of it rather time-consuming (like deep conditioning for an hour once a week, no kid would sit for that, haha), but there are parents out there who do some of th basic aspects of the curly girl method with kiddos, such as using the ‘squish to condish’ method on them when they are bathing/showering as that wouldn’t really be any more time consuming than washing their hair any other way but it helps hydrate their curls a lot better. There is a really active community on reddit if you go to reddit.com/r/curlyhair almost everyone there does the curly girl method. I’m sure you could get feedback on your daughter’s hair and how to best care for it in a way that is practical for young children from other parents who have curly haired kiddos. 🙂
