6 Benefits To Outdoor Play
There are lots of reasons to head outdoors, especially during the summertime. So today, we’re also sharing the benefits of outdoor play for the kids in your life!
1) Fresh Air Is Healthy
Getting the whole family outdoors on a regular basis is important. This simple act can actually improve health and wellbeing as the fresh air cleans your lungs, ridding them of impurities such as car fumes and dust. Everyone needs a bit of fresh air each day for optimal health!
2) Improves Sensory Skills
An optometry and vision science study has shown that kids who are allowed to play outside regularly will actually have better distance vision than children who are always indoors. While all kids benefit, preschoolers, in particular, are more apt to learn new things through their senses.
3) Contributes To Social Development
Allowing kids to have unstructured play, both indoors and out, is extremely beneficial to social development. This free time gives kids the chance to learn how to take turns, share with others, and develop other positive behavior skills. Kids are more likely to be inventive, explore the world around them, and learn how to use their own abilities. As they invent and play games with siblings, daycare buddies, classmates, or friends; these interactions help improve communication, cooperation, and organizational skills.
4) Increases Attention Spans
Kids who are given access to free play, especially outdoors, are allowed to be curious, self-directed, and inventive. This actually works to increase productivity and attention span when concentrating on a specific activity.
5) Creates Happier Children
Sunshine is toted as ‘the happy light’. There are even companies who sell lights geared to mimic the sun and its benefits! Spending that time, daily if possible, in nature is associated with improving mood and happiness which means kids who play outside are happier. They are able to burn off energy, explore, play, and reap the benefits of natural light.
6) Builds Immunity
Outdoor light stimulates the pineal gland and this part of the brain is vital to keeping our immune system strong. What a great, natural way to encourage health!
Simplay3 Discovery Playhouse Review
A great way to encourage play, especially in younger children is to provide them with some fun equipment to use. A really awesome piece I recently had the chance to review is the Simplay3 Discovery Playhouse. What makes it especially great is the fact that it’s designed to easily go from indoors to out and back again! The skinnier dimensions allow for an easy fit through doorways. This is an especially great feature for us since we live in Minnesota, where winter reigns for 6 months out of the year! While the Discovery Playhouse works well outdoors right now, we can easily transport back indoors come winter.
Fun Playhouse For Kids Ages 18 Months – 6 Years
The Simplay3 Discovery Playhouse is a great little playhouse that my kids love. It features a climbing walls, two doors, small kitchen area, cup holders (that could double as flower window box), mail slot in door, and climbing area below. Plus, it has the ability to add on to other Simplay3 products to create an even bigger structure!
This colorful structure is loads of fun for a variety of ages. It can double as a playhouse or climbing structure, depending on age.
Made from a sturdy, heavy duty plastic, the Discovery Playhouse will last for years to come. I especially love investing in products that I’ll be able to pass on to family and friends so this is a winner in that aspect too!
Overall, we love the Simplay3 Discovery Playhouse. I will note that it was a bit tricky to put together, (and my husband has done a LOT of assembly over the years), but once complete, the kids have a blast. He said his biggest tip is to look at the pictures, use a tape measure to ensure you’re using the correct screws in the right places, and utilize a drill to insert the screws.
Tell me, what's your child's favorite outdoor at the moment? Do you need a playhouse too?

I’m a city girl turned country by my awesome husband and we have three busy boys and two darling daughters. I love spending time with my family, reading Karen Kingsbury novels, and catching up with friends while our kiddos have play dates. I’m blessed beyond measure and can’t wait to see what God has in store.

My kiddos would have loved this when they were younger. Their favorite part of these little structures was always the bugs that would join them… especially spiderwebs with dew in the morning. Those were always so fascinating to them!

Beautiful pictures. I would really love to have one of these to add to my backyard play area for my grandchildren. My youngest is here most of the week. He’s almost 1-1/2, and this would be perfect for him. He really enjoys playing outside with my dogs, but most of my play structures are too big for him yet.
