Leguano go-white shoes and gray chester boots

Leguano sent me shoes in exchange for this review. All opinions are my own.

As a child I remember seeing some “first walking shoes” that were probably from the 1950’s or 1960’s. I was so surprised at how hard they were! They seemed so uncomfortable, and I couldn’t imagine a baby trying to walk in those. At the time, most of the babies I knew just wore ‘regular’ shoes.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve noticed more and more parents turning to barefoot-style baby shoes for their babies as they reach walking age. This seems so much more logical, to let babies and toddlers feel the surface below them while they’re trying to learn how to balance and take steps. I mean, would you rather walk on a balance beam barefoot or in big, clunky boots? I know I can balance better barefoot!

Anyway, it seems like more people are catching on to the idea that having shoes that are closer to the barefoot experience may not just be best for babies but for all of us. It’s just more natural.

Benefits of going barefoot:

Muscles. We use more muscles in our feet when walking barefoot! Muscles have a ‘use it, or lose it’ type effect, so it’s good to work your feet muscles regularly by going barefoot.

Better balance. We can balance easier when we can feel the surface under our feet better!

Posture. In many cases, people will keep better posture when going barefoot as their whole bodies will be in better alignment.

Reflexology. Walking barefoot on textured surfaces can stimulate pressure points in the feet that can have all sorts of benefits such as better energy, circulation and more.

Leguano Barefoot Shoes Review

If you or someone you know is interested in barefoot shoes, you’ll love Leguano. They make barefoot shoes for men, women and kids. Leguano shoes are designed in Germany. They started out making barefoot running shoes, but have since expanded to all sorts of barefoot shoes.

I was sent two pair of Leguano shoes. I was set the Leguano Go White barefoot shoes which are casual, everyday sneakers. I was also sent the Leguano Chester Boots in gray.

Because this is a German brand, the sizing is different from what I’m used to here in the US, but Leguano has a handy size guide so you can figure out what size works for you. I wear a 7.5 in women’s here in the US, so I need a 38 in Leguano shoes.

Leguano Chester Gray Boots Review

The Chester Gray boots are a bit out of my comfort zone style-wise! I’d love to hear your thoughts on how these look, in the comments. I haven’t really worn them yet due to being a bit insecure if they’re ‘my style’ or not. However, they are really comfortable. They cover part of the ankle like typical boots, but have a much thiner sole than typical boots. You can feel the ground below you, but not so much that it’s painful to walk on a gravel driveway, for example. You can feel the texture more than with traditional shoes.

The fabric of the boots is thin and hugs your feet without feeling tight or restrictive. While these are boots, they aren’t winter boots. They are unlined so they can be worn year-round.

Leguano Go White Shoes Review

Many of the above statements are true about the Leguano Go White shoes, as well. The soles are the same style, which makes them thin ad flexible, yet protective. The sides of the shoes are thin and cuddle your feet close without being tight. They’re comfortable and breathable.

Here in Michigan, these shoes aren’t particularly ‘winter friendly’, as they aren’t waterproof and they’re white so they get muddy easily with the snow we currently have. However, I love the look and feel of these shoes so much that I’ve been wearing them anyway, and have just tried to avoid the snow and mud as much as possible!

These shoes are really trim so they make your feet look a bit smaller than other shoes might. I like how they’re relatively plain shoes that can go well with any outfit. The tongue of the shoes is padded so they’re comfortable to wear even if you like to tie them up pretty tight.

I appreciate how these shoes are machine washable because I don’t have to worry quite as much when they get dirty.
