When I was as young as 11 years old, in 6th grade we had school dances. We would dress up (a little, not dresses or anything) but I would like to wear dress shoes. However, about 45 minutes into the dance we’d all end up kicking off our shoes because our feet hurt. It probably wasn’t the most heigenic thing in teh world, but we all did it. By the end of the dance there was a mountain of dress shoes piled in one corner of the gym. As I got older and would go to dances, or wedding receptions, I learned to bring a pair of flip flops or flats with me for when my feet got tired. However this usually requires a REALLY big purse or an additional bag.
I’m sure many of you can relate to my experience, and I found a great solution to this problem. Cityslips is a company that makes compact flats that fold up and fit inside a pouch that will fit into a regular medium sized purse. Once you put the flats on, you can turn the small pouch inside out, and it turns into a large tote bag big enough to carry your high heels! I fell in love with this idea and was thrilled to get to review these shoes. I wasn’t able to pick the color, but they come in black, silver and gold. I personally never wear gold shoes, so sadly I don’t think I’ll get much wear out of these. However, if they were black or silver, which I do like to wear, I would love these. They are so convenient for weddings, dances, or just a night out on the town.
One of my favorite things about these shoes is they have a REAL sole, unlike some flats that are the same material on the top as they are the bottom. Not these! They have soles that protect your heel and upper foot. The middle of the shoe doesn’t have the thicker sole material, so that thy can easily fold in half for storage in the small pouch. Another thing I really like about these shoes, is how they have an elasticy heel area, so although these are sized small medium or large, which can be a problem if you are at the smaller end of the shoe size sometimes, this isn’t the case at all with these shoes. I ordered a medium, which fits 7-8, and I usually wear a 7.5. Cityslips seem to be sized a big on the big side, so at first I thought they might be a bit too big. When I put these on, there is a decent amount of space left in the back, however, with the elasticy backing, these still hug my feet and don’t feel too large at all when I’m walking, which is a major plus in my opinion. The only thing that I feel is somewhat compromised due to the folding ability of these shoes, is they do get bent and even when worn for a while, will show lines where they were folded. However, for someone like me this definitely isn’t a big deal, I just always try to look at every aspect incase someone is more sensitive to such things than I am. Other than that I think these shoes are really great.
The first pic is the cityslips in teh small pouch. Then the folded cityslips, then the unfolded shoe and then the big bag that unfolds from the pouch.
