I mentioned recently that I greatly cut back on drinking soda. My “soda of choice” is definitely mountain dew. When I saw that Cangles is a company that takes aluminum cans and with them creates upcycled bracelets, necklaces and other jewelry I thought this was such a neat idea. I love upcycled products of all kind, but I thought that using cans for bracelets was a neat form of popart. I chose two bracelets for review. The first was the moutain dew bangle bracelet. This bracelet is available in small medium and large. My wrist measured out to be just under 7 inches, so I ordered a small which is 7.5 and it fits great. These bracelets are somewhat adjustable which is great because it allows for a custom fit. When they arrived they were rather circular, but of course my wrist is more like an oval. At first the bracelet was rubbing against my wrist bone so I kind of pinched the bracelet a bit while wearing it and it formed perfectly to my wrist and hasn’t been an issue since, which I love. The clasp is magnetic which is nice because I don’t have to try to use the clasp with one hand like I do for most bracelets, as this one just snaps together because of the strong magnets. The magnets are strong though, and if I open and close the fridge or get near another magnet, they pull towards the fridge or other magnet, and the bracelet comes undone. Then when i move away from the fridge, they snap back together and often catch a bit of my skin which pinches me. I’ve had several people notice the bracelet and ask if its a real mountain dew can, etc. When I say yes the typical response is “isn’t it sharp?”. I can see how people might think that a bracelet from a can would be sharp, but they’re not at all. Mine are very well smoothed so getting cut isn’t an issue at all.

I was also sent the Women’s swirl designed eco-cuff. This piece of eco-friendly jewelry comes in petite, small, medium and large sizes. It also has the options of a 1/8″ or 1/4″ trim. I got a small with a 1/8″ trim. It fits really well and is slightly adjustable which I love. I really like the appearance of cuff bracelets, but they usually feel a bit awkward on because the gap in the cuff as to be big enough to put on, but then when you lay your arm down on a table or armrest the bracelet kind of sits awkwardly. Seems how it’s adjustable i’m able to open it enough to get my wrist in and then bend it slightly so that it adjusts to the oval of my wrist without bulging in any given direction even when I lay my arm on a table or armrest.

Since I was in middle school I’ve avoided wearing jewelry for more than maybe 8 or 10 hours at a time if it’s not sterling silver or gold, because I usually rash from other materials that jewelry is made of. Plus most other jewelry materials will turn your skin green if worn for a while. I’ve been really impressed with how these haven’t had any signs of wear or caused a rash or any irritation on my skin. Of course, people with aluminum allergies could have a reaction with these bracelets, but most people like myself who have problems with most fashion jewelry will be completely fine to wear cangles for long stretches of time.
