CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL was released in June of 1993 by Mark Victor Hansen and Jack Canfield. Mark and Jack were both well known and respected public speakers when they got together and decided to put their stories in print as a way of getting these stories out to more people than just those who were able to attend a speaking engagement.
Once these stories were put in the form of a book, Mark and Jack needed to come up with a name for this book. After much thought and meditation, they came up with CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL because Jack’s grandmother had always told him that her chicken soup would cure anything. Since they wanted their book to have the same healing powers on their readers’ souls as grandma’s chicken soup had on the body, they decided the name was appropriate.
Since its release, CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL, has won numerous awards and is now available in other media forms and is available in over 40 languages.
For our review, we received CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL Family Caregivers by Joan Lunden and Amy Newmark. This book includes 101 stories of Love, Sacrifice, and Bonding.
Anyone involved in being a caregiver (which includes most of us at some time in our lives), will enjoy reading this accumulation of heart warming stories. Some of the stories may bring a tear to your eye while many will put a smile in your heart. While some of the authors are well known including: Gail Sheehy, Leeza Gibbons, and Michael Tucker and Jill Eikenberry; others are written by people like you and me. Our professional status, level of wealth, or even our age, have nothing to do with whether or not we will find ourselves in the position of being a caregiver. Do yourself a favor and spend some time with this book. If you haven’t yet been a caregiver, it will give you insight; if you have been a caregiver, it will validate the role you fulfilled.

Hello, my name is Laurie. My family and I live near the Oregon coast. When we aren’t at work, in school, or on the volleyball court, we enjoy traveling, cheering for our favorite sports teams, playing outdoors, and checking off items on our bucket list. We are lucky in that both sets of our parents, as well as our siblings and their families, live within an hour of us. We get together often to help one another out, celebrate milestones, and go on adventures together.
