*I was provided with a Silly Rhino subscription box subscription. All opinions are my own.

I’ve tried out a few different types of subscription boxes for myself or for my dogs, so I was excited to test out Silly Rhino which is a subscription box for kids ages 0-4. It’s still in the early stages as it just began in December. I was sent a February box. The website says the boxes ship out between the 20th and 22nd of each month. I got a notification on February 22nd that my box had a label created but the tracking number didn’t show it as actually moving anywhere until the 27th and it arrived March 3rd. The waiting was a little frustrating, mainly not seeing the package actually move for several days after it “was shipped”. However, I quickly forgot about the long ship time once it arrived. The packaging is really cute with an adorable rhino sticker holding the tissue paper shut. It was fun to open the subscription box because it felt like a gift.

There was a small card inside that explained what each item was. I had my Silly Rhino box ordered for Kelsie who was 10 and 11 months in February. Ours had a wooden ship toy from Hape, a baby shampoo/body wash from Earth Friendly Baby, Green Sprouts stacking cups, a Manhattan Toy Wobble-A-Round, Kiss My Face Lip Gloss and Eeboo Tell Me A Story Cards.

I was a little surprised by the Kiss My Face lip gloss because it was for me not the baby. I didn’t realize that Silly Rhino sometimes included items for the parent but I have to admit I really, really like this lip gloss. It smells really nice, and goes on really soft. I like it enough that I sometimes use it ‘just because’ and not because I actually have chapped lips.

I was also a little surprised by the Eeboo Tell Me A Story cards because again they aren’t really for the baby but for the parent. They are a neat product, though. They are cards with images on them that are supposed to inspire you to come up with a creative story. I’m not very good at being creative so I kind of like the idea of being able to get assistance with creating stories. Kelsie’s brother Drew is 3.5 and he liked these cards and was able to use them to come up with story ideas which was really entertaining.

The item that excited me the most was the Manhattan Toy Wobble-A-Round. This is basically a miniature version of those bead mazes that you so often see in waiting rooms and the like. This is recommended for 12 months+ so Kelsie was only about 3 weeks under the recommended age the first time that she saw this. I was a bit bummed that it didn’t really grab her interest. She will watch it for a second if I spin it but she has been here 3 or 4 times since we got this toy and I’ve shown it to her each time and she will sometimes pick it up from me but she doesn’t really do anything with it. Drew (3.5) said “this is like my doctors’ toy!” and he moved the beads around once or twice but that was all. I appreciate how this toy was so unique, though. I like using subscription boxes to find products that I wouldn’t have heard of or thought to seek out before and this definitely qualifies for that, I just wish the kids would have liked it more. Maybe Kelsie will in a few months or something.

silly rhino hape toy review

I have done a Hape Review in the past and I just love the brand. I love wooden toys in general and they have some great, unique ones. So I was happy to get the Hape Little Ship in this box. It is recommended for 10+ months. The bottom is round so it will rock on the floor or a surface. For now, Kelsie prefers to shake the toy so that the moving piece in the center makes a clacking noise, but for older toddlers it’s a great piece for pretend play.

silly rhino earth friendly baby

The Earth Friendly Baby shampoo and body wash was in a plastic baggy but ours did leak a little bit during shipping. This is an organic product that is made in the USA and isn’t tested on animals. Kelsie doesn’t have a whole lot of hair yet so shampoo and body wash combos like this are great for her (and at 3.5 Drew’s hair is still fine enough that it’s fine for him also) so this will definitely be put to use. It’s always fun to discover new gentle products for babies.

The last item in our box was a Green Sprouts set of Stacking Cups. These are BPA and PVC free version of these classic cup toys. These have gotten the most use out of everything in the Silly Rhino box. Kelsie loves these even though she isn’t skilled enough to stack them yet – if we stack them, she knocks them down. She will grab them to chew on or talk into. I sometimes stack them all inside each other and then flip them over, so the 7 nestled cups are all hidden inside the top cup which is the biggest. When I do this she will sit and slowly pull each cup off, one at a time and act surprised when there are cups remaining underneath. I think it really satisfies her curiosity right now. These are one of her favorite toys at my house right now. Each cup has drain holes in the bottom so they can be used in the tub as well.

Curious how the value works out?

  • The Kiss My Face Lip Balm is listed as $1.00 on the Kiss My Face website.
  • The story cards are $10.05 on Amazon.
  • Manhattan Toy Wobble-A-Round 8.78 on Amazon.
  • Hape Little Ship – 9.99 on Amazon.
  • The Earth Friendly Baby shampoo is 9.95 on Amazon.
  • Green Sprouts Stacking Cups are 10.48 on Amazon.

So, based on these prices our box had a total value of $50.25. The Silly Rhino subscription boxes are $35.99 a month (shipping is free). Your subscription renews each month (unless you cancel). So compared to buying these items individually on Amazon, we definitely saved money.

You can connect with Silly Rhino on Facebook and Twitter.

Win it: A 1 month subscription to Silly Rhino, for kids 0-4. Giveaway is open to the US and will end at 11:59pm EST on 4/20.
