The Walmart gift cards and information have been provided by P&G.

For a couple of years I used coupons while getting groceries pretty heavily. One big “method” that I used to save money was to buy multiples of products when I could get them really cheap with sales and/or coupons. It was great in theory but we would occasionally end up with food that went bad before we got to use it, and it only worked well if I could shop for items when they were at their cheapest which meant shopping at least weekly. With just two people in my household, it wasn’t ideal to have to hit the stores every week and we’d inevitably throw an item or two in the cart that we didn’t really need. I eventually gave up on using coupons heavily buy I have continued to stockpile certain items.

Instead of stockpiling food, I buy household items in “bulk” – not true bulk, we just shop at regular stores like Walmart but I buy the bigger packages so that the price per oz (or other unit) is less and then we don’t have to make emergency trips to the store. If we were to shop for toilet paper every other week, we would only have to buy about a six pack of toilet paper but it’s cheaper (per roll) and more convenient to buy a big pack instead. I do the same thing for laundry detergent, over the counter medications, paper towel, dish soap, household cleaning supplies, etc.

I like to try and stock up on everything at once, when we have the extra money. Far too often, we’ll have extra money but not have a set goal in mind for it and then before we know it it’s spent and we aren’t even sure where it went. To avoid that, I use it to stock up on necessities so that it’s spent in a smart way.

Walmart.com

Buying my household goods to stockpile is really easy with Walmart.com. They have a really big selection of products to choose from and as long as your order is over $50 or more, they’ll mail it to you for free which makes it even more convenient. If you prefer, you can use their site-to-store function to place an order online and pick it up at your local Walmart.  Of course, prices can vary by region but I found the online prices to be really similar to what I would expect to see in store. Some items even were cheaper online than I would see in store, such as the 56oz Dawn dishwashing liquid for $3.28. My full order is below.

Stock up on household goods at walmart.com

For $50 I was able to get Head & Shoulders shampoo, 48ct Swiffer cloth refill, 18 rolls of Charmin (the BIG rolls), 12 Bounty paper towel rolls and 56oz of Dawn dish liquid, all shipped directly to my house. I’m excited to be stocked back up on so many of our essentials. In addition to being able to avoid “emergency” trips to the store, it’ll also make our grocery bills more stable because they won’t be thrown off on weeks where we have to buy lots of household items.

If you have a smartphone you can even place an order from the Walmart app.
