Back in March I wrote an American Kennel Club review. To date, we had enjoyed everything that we had tried from the AKC brand. So, when I began looking for a car harness for Beans, I knew to try AKC again. Up until a few months ago, the dogs would sit on my lap as I held them in the car. A few months ago Beans began to try jumping into the backseat (by herself) while we were driving. I tried letting her but she didn’t have the strength or balance to stay upright when we made turns. I was eager to try the 2-in-1 seatbelt harness. Beans has a 16″ neck, 24″ chest (or girth) and a 21″ waist. The size small AKC dog vehicle harness fits her great. The neck portion of the harness is designed to sit low on the chest to avoid putting strain on the neck area. Beans’ measurement where her neck meets her body is about 18″. This adjustment for the harness fits Beans perfectly without being expanded at all. It can also expand to about 6 inches bigger around, so roughly dogs with 18-24 inch necks (where the neck meets the body, NOT where a collar would rest).
The waist measurement fits beans 21″ waist with it about 1/2 way tightened. It would fit dogs with roughly 4 inches bigger waist (up to 25″) or up to about 6 inches smaller (15 inches). The entire chest is covered in fabric so if your dog pulls the tension is spread across their entire body. There is a ring that you can use to attach the harness to a leash like a regular harness. You can also run a car seat-belt through the harness to secure your dog in place in the car. It worked well with my car. I love knowing that she is safely secured in place while enjoying the freedom of being in the backseat. Plus, when we get to our destination I can easily clip the leash onto the harness to use it as a regular walking harness. There is only one buckle (the top goes over their head, and then you buckle around their waist) so the AKC 2-in-1 Seatbelt Harness is actually a lot easier to put on than most traditional harnesses. The harness is currently listed for $15.19 on amazon.
We were also sent a green AKC dog bed. It is about 24″ across and 18″ deep. This is the smallest dog bed that I’ve ever had for the pugs. I have always went with really big beds in the past so that they could share the bed. Seeing them lounge about in this bed is so cute because it’s the perfect size for them. They do still opt to share the bed at times which I find adorable because it’s such a tight fit. I really like how the sides are really nicely padded and stay upright even though they have spent a lot of time leaning against them over the past few weeks since we got the bed.
We also have a 30″ by 20″ memory foam pet mat. It’s just bigger than the dog bed so it’s perfect to put under the bed for added support. Frank limps a little and hesitates to jump when it’s really humid here, so I assume he has some arthritis. I feel better knowing that his dog bed is deeply cushioned to help support him. Once again, we are happy with the AKC brand dog gear items that we tried.

I love all the products for dogs, especially the seat belt harness. I see so many dogs not restrained in cars and it makes me crazy. I’m glad you reviewed these–thank you!
