Perfect Storm Waterproof winter boots

*Perfect Storm Boots sent me a pair of boots for review. All opinions are my own.

A few weeks back I was sent the Cloud Mid Frost boots from Perfect Storm. I really love these boots – they’re the favorite new product that I’ve gotten in the past six months or maybe even longer.

Perfect storm frost mid winter boots

I live in Michigan where we have a really short period of fall weather. We have warm summers and then maybe a four-week span where it’s chilly enough to wear a hoodie or light jacket but not cold enough to need boots, coats, etc. We usually have snow by mid November and it stays until mid March so a pair of nice winter boots is a necessity. Yet, in all of my adult life I had failed to find the perfect pair of boots for me…until I found Perfect Storm boots.

As I mentioned, we have 4-5 months of winter weather with snow on the ground. I have two dogs and they have to go outside at least three times a day but usually only stay out for five minutes. If I wear shoes, the snow goes up above the sole and leaks through getting my socks wet so I have to change my socks multiple times a day. Yet, I don’t want to spend 5 minutes lacing up a pair of boots just to spend 5 minutes outside and then come right back in. I had tried slip-on rain boots but they didn’t handle cold weather well so I didn’t think there was an ideal option.

Perfect Storm Snow Boots Review

Perfect Storm boots are designed to be waterproof and to handle cold weather. The Cloud Mid Frost boots that I was sent are comfort tested down to -30F. Yet, they have no laces and just slip on so they are perfect for sliding on to take my dogs out to go to the bathroom.

The entire boot is lined with 7 mm neoprene which has some stretch to it. This makes them easy to pull on even over flared or boot-cut jeans because the sides of the boot will mold to cover my pant legs. The boots are 9-9.5 inches tall so unless I walk out into a snow bank they should be tall enough to avoid snow. However, the neoprene sides squeezes around my pant leg instead of leaving a gap between my clothing and the boot so if I do walk out into a snow bank it would still help keep most of the snow out.

The neoprene lining that covers the entire inside of the boot is also antimicrobial making them suitable for both snow and water use. If they get wet over and over again, they’ll be resistant to bacterial growth. The outsole of the boots has a thick traction groves that help prevent slipping and make it easier to walk on ice and snow. I have noticed that they track in snow (it packs into the bottom of the boots heavily) but I’ll gladly stomp my boots free of snow before coming inside when the soles help me keep a grip on the earth during the winter. Even when my boots had a lot of snow packed into them, I felt like they were still gripping the ground well instead of just getting packed full and then having no traction like some other boots that I’ve had in the past.

Perfect Storm Outsole

The sides of the boots look a little odd at first glance because they have a handle on the outside, but a lining covering the hole on the inside. While it surprised me a little at first, I’ve grown to really love this feature. It makes the boots easy to pull on because the handle is there to grip onto. Yet, the inside lining covers the hole so snow can’t fall inside.

Perfect Storm Boots Comfort Rated -30F

I wouldn’t say that the boots are lightweight, but they don’t feel clunky or heavy either. The whole outside can simply be wiped down with a wet rag to clean if they get muddy. So far, we’ve only had about 1.5 inches of snow but they’ve kept my feet completely dry and warm so far. One day it warmed up a bit more than usual and my feet actually got a little overheated because these boots are that warm. While it may be a little shallow of me, I like how they look as well. So many high quality winter boots for women look quite masculine and clunky which I don’t care for. I love how my Perfect Storm boots keep my feet just as warm, or warmer, than those boots but don’t have that rough and clunky masculine appearance.

I like my Perfect Storm boots so much that I plan to get Ryan a pair too – Perfect Storm has a men’s line and a kids line in addition to their women’s boots. We have to save up a little because they are about $75-$80 a pair but they are definitely worth it.  Ryan’s current boots have so many laces that he never bothers to put them on unless we’re spending more than an hour outside in the winter. I know he’d get so much use out of a pair of slip-on Perfect Storm boots.

How did you find the sizing?

    • Emily

Hello. I can’t seem to find a size chart on their website now, sorry. I usually wear a half size (7.5) in shoes and Perfect Storm boots only come in full sizes so I got an 8 and they fit well with a little room to spare but it’s not enough to make them hard to wear or uncomfortable so I wouldn’t say they are really “too big”. Based on that, I would say order your normal size (or a half size up if you wear a half size). I have wider feet and they aren’t tight on me at all so they are generously wide. If you have a specific question about the sizing I can forward it to my contact at Perfect Storm and try to get you an answer that way. 🙂

i was looking up reviews for these Perfect Storm boots for women’s and found your review, and was glad to see it. But how do these hold up over time? 2 comments below stated they don’t last more than 1 winter. How did your experience go for these Perfect Storm boots? Do they last and are they durable? I live in Michigan too and need warm waterproof boots to wear, b/c I do ot have a car. But do not want to make the high expenditure on them if they don’t last or hold up for very long. Can you please let me know? thanks
