Why it's important to keep the air in your home fresh and how to keep the air in your home fresh

Having clean air in my home is important to me for several reasons, but five come to mind as the most important.

1. Household odor reduction. Nobody wants to have a stinky house, and having clean, fresh air in your home is a great way to avoid bad or stale smelling air.

2. Avoiding allergens. I experience occasional allergy-like symptoms, and have since I was a child even though I have no idea what I am actually allergic to. To stay on the safe side, I like to keep my home fresh and clean to reduce the odds of coming into contact with allergens.

3. Avoiding headaches. I tend to get a headache when I’m in a dusty or damp location for very long, which has happened when I spend time in a basement or RV, for example.

4. Creating a clean and fresh feeling environment – I want my home to look, smell and feel clean and fresh. Having clean air and avoiding household odors goes a long way at creating the atmosphere that I desire.

5. I simply want to avoid breathing in debris. I’ve seen the air filter from my air conditioner and furnace, and knowing that I have probably breathed in some of that same debris makes me uncomfortable. I’m all for getting as much dust and debris out of my air as possible.

These are just a few of the reasons why I want to keep the air in my home clean. Desiring clean, fresh air has lead me to focus on household odor reduction and household dust reduction. I’ve come up with five ways to help keep the air in my home clean and fresh.

Pug dog shedding

1. Brush my dogs. I love my pugs more than I imagined possible prior to getting them. Still, their constant shedding is a factor in the scent and purity of the air in my home. Brushing and bathing my dogs regularly is a big help in keeping pet dander out of the air and off of the surfaces in my home.

2. Clean and dust regularly. Making sure that the furniture and other surfaces in my home are kept clean is another big help in improving the freshness of my home. Vacuuming helps remove dirt and debris from my carpet, and using Febreze fabric refresher spray on my soft furniture such as bed, couch and other surfaces that I can’t simply throw in the washing machine.Keeping my shelves and hard furniture surfaces free of dust means that it gets removed from my home instead of being accidentally pushed into the air when we use our future or move around the house.

3. Bathing my dogs regularly. When I find the right balance of bathing my dogs often enough to keep them clean and their skin moisturized, without bathing too much and over-drying them, it reduces their itching and scratching which leaves my home with less pet dander being strewn about.

4. Let indoor air in. Anyone who has been in an RV that has been parked all winter long knows what stale air smells like. It’s important to me to occasionally leave windows open to let fresh air in and let the stale air out.

5. Use a HEPA-type air filter such as the Febreze™ Air Purifier. The Hepta-type air filter in the Febreze Air Purifier removes 99.9% of air pollutants and comes with a scent cartridge which can last up to 30 days. I love how the Febreze Air Purifier doesn’t just clean my air but also leaves it smelling great. There are 3 air-cleaning levels and a freshness scent control dial so you can adjust how strong you want the scent in your home to be. The Febreze Air Purifier is available in three sizes – tabletop, mini tower and tower so you can find the size that’s right for you and your home. It’s even ENERGY STAR® qualified so you can feel great about its energy usage.

We could go for this in a big way. Although we have no pets right now, we are right up against an 8 land superhighway. We can’t open the windows ever because all the exhaust comes in. We need to get this!

I have to keep my home clean also. I am allergic to something in air, doc has me on allergy med. I do wash my Pug weekly also. Pugs do shed, they all do. To combat that, keeping them bathed helps. And the air needs to be clean for her short nose also! We love our Pugs!

I can’t resist a post about dogs. I’ve never had pugs, only Yorkies and didn’t know pugs shed so much. They don’t look like they do! I live by a busline, two major freeways and an airport, so you better believe there is some major dust. Not to mention the general layer of LA smog lol. I need this for cleaner air for sure.
