Author Francine L. Trevens and Illustrator Maggie Cousins created Pixie Tales, Elfin Tales and Fairy Tales Too with the hope that it would “delight and inform our youngsters about kindness, bullying, the loss of forest lands, the double-parent family, prejudice and many other facts they face in their own lives.

These books are well written and have some beautiful illustrations. Each book contains several small stories. They take to you on a journey to a magical land with mythical creatures. We enjoyed the story “The Tale of a Dog Without a Tail” in the book Elfin Tales. As you can guess from the title, it tells the tale of a dog without a tail and how he tries to fit in with the other dogs that all have tails. My oldest is almost 5 years old. We are getting to the stage where she wants to look like her friends and do everything they do. This was a cute story showing her that it’s OK and even GOOD to be unique.

This series would be great for kids that enjoy fairies, elves, gremlins, genies, trolls and other mythical creatures. It was written for parents to read to young kids but, I also think it would be great for tweens to read to themselves.

These are three books in a series of five. The fourth in the series, Gremlins, Genies and Trolls, Oh My! will be published in a few months.
