New Dollar General Diapers Review | Emily Reviews

Dollar general size 5 diaper

My nephew drew turned 2 about 6 weeks ago and I recently had the chance to try out Dollar Generals new and improved line of baby diapers with him. He weighs 30lbs. The size 4 say they fit 16-37lb babies, size 5 diapers say that they are for 27lbs+. and size 6 say 37lbs+.

Based on this and knowing that his mom purchases him size 5 diapers in other brands, I selected size 5 for this review. While on, the tabs touch each other without overlapping, so they weren’t too big but I think size 4 would have actually fit him as well so I think the sizing is pretty accurate based on weight.

In other brands in size 5 the tabs almost overlap or slightly overlap so they seem to match up with other brands size wise. Of course, we were curious to see how the diapers would compare to the other brands that we were used to. These diapers were absorbent enough to keep Drew dry during the day with regular changing, though the tabs came off.

My sister said that she would be curious to see if she purchased him these diapers in size 6, if that would fix the tab problem seems how there would be less pressure on the tabs. However, I think she may have meant size 4, because a larger diaper would only mean that the tabs would have more strain on them as they had to reach further towards the center.

During naps and night time, these diapers would be damp on the outside and would get his clothing slightly damp. At 2, he is probably a heavier wetter than a younger baby would be so perhaps they’d work full time for a younger child.

As you can see from the photos, the diaper doesn’t seem any bulkier than other brands. Drew doesn’t usually have any rashes or other problems from any brand of diaper, but these didn’t cause any issues for him either. The diaper package that I was sent was smaller than the ‘regular’ (usually referred to as jumbo) packs of diapers.

The size 5 had 18 diapers in the package and retails for $4.50 at my local dollar general which works out to .25 per diaper which works out to .1 more per diaper than a different brand of non-store brand diapers. For that reason I wouldn’t purchase the small packs but would instead buy them in larger quantities to make sure that I was saving money because the larger packages of dollar general diapers end up being cheaper per diaper – the more you buy the less they cost per diaper.

The size 5 diaper in the 86ct box works out to 21.6 per diaper which is cheaper than other brands. Overall, I think that if you purchase dollar general diapers in large quantities, it can be a money saver and is a smart choice for frugal moms or moms on a budget. Dollar general often has save $5 off of $25 coupons that are usable on Saturdays (or sometimes Fridays) so if it were me I’d purchase roughly $25 worth of diapers on that special day that the coupon is accepted so I could save even more.

If I had a younger baby in my life I would try using dollar general diapers at night and nap time because I think they might work full time for a child of that age.  With a toddler, I’d still use them but just swap them out with a more absorbent diaper during nap time and night time.

  • I didn’t know Dollar General made diapers. My son is way past that age, but it’s good to know to pass on to others with smaller children! Your nephew is adorable, by the way!

  • I had no idea that Dollar General had diapers! I’m always looking for ways to save money on diapers for my little man so I’ll have to check this out.

  • Its tough to compete when you can get brand name diapers on sale with coupons for about $.11/diaper…

  • I’m a Huggies mom, but I’m finding that store brands are comparable in quality. And it’s true, they don’t seem any more bulkier than other brands.
