We live in an older house so most of the place is rather old, including the plumbing. Our bathroom tub drain seems to get clogged at least a couple of times a year, despite our best efforts to prevent hair and such from getting into the pipes. We’ve tried a few drain opening products in the past but most of the time we end up having to use a snake to fix the problem.

When I heard that Unique, a brand of natural cleaning products offers a drain clog remover product called Super Digest-it Safe Drain Opener, that uses healthy bacteria to open drains, I thought it was worth a try. I was surprised when a couple of weeks after the drain opener arrived, we had a clog – not in our bathtub like usual but instead on one side of our kitchen sink. In the past, I’ve used products that say you have to use them after all the water has drained. If you’ve ever had a clogged drain, you know that this may take hours and hours, so I was excited to see that the directions say to use it in standing water – a much more practical instruction when you have a clogged drain. I did as the bottle said and added 1 cup into my clogged sink and waited. It said the clog should be removed within one hour. After an hour, most of the water was still standing, but the water level had went down slightly. After a couple of hours, it was basically the same so we wound up snaking the drain instead. Since then, we have been pouring 1/2 a cup down per month to maintenance the drain. Of course, it’s hard to know if it has prevented any clogs but we haven’t had any clogs in the past month or so since we had our original clog removed.  Seems how each clog is different, it’s hard to compare one situation to the other, but my guess is that the Unique Drain Opener probably works as well as any other drain opener, but that our clog was just beyond being fixable with a drain opener, as that has been my experience several times in the past.

I was also sent Unique Carpet shampoo. It’s highly concentrated  so you only need to use 4oz per gallon of water. You leave the solution to sit for 10 minutes before extracting the water from the carpet. I didn’t have any stains to test the cleaner on, but it seemed to be effective at cleaning and didn’t leave my carpet feeling like it and product left over afterwards, like other traditional carpet cleaners have done in the past.

I was also sent the Unique Pet Odor & Stain Eliminator. I don’t have any cats or dogs so I wasn’t able to test this, but to use it you soak the problem area with the solution and then cover it with a damp towel for several hours until the odor and stain are gone. It can be used on carpets, floors, kennels, bedding, vehicle interiors, and more.

Last but not least is the Unique Wine Stain Eater. It’s designed to work well on red wine, but also on other problem stains like ketchup, fruit juice, coffee, tea and more. It can be used on carpet, floor, clothing, bedding, furniture and more. I also haven’t had an experience with a tough stain like this to be able to try it out, but to use it you just dampen the area with the solution and cover with a damp warm towel overnight until the stain is gone.
