It is a tradition in our family to gift socks every year. Usually I just purchase a pack of bulk athletic socks for myself and my husband but this year I wanted to find something different. My search began with looking for men’s work socks. I wanted to find my husband some high quality socks that could stand up to his rough and rugged wear. My husband has a physically demanding job. When he is working in the shop, he spends hours running around and standing on cement while wearing rugged work boots. He also works on the jobsite, which means running around construction zones wearing steel toe work boots and battling with Oregon weather conditions. For myself, I wanted socks that were pretty and that kept my feet warm and dry. My search ended for both of us when I found Dahlgren Footwear.
Dahlgren understands our needs and desires. They understand the environment we live in because they also call Oregon home. Dahlgren has been in the sock business for many years. They have researched, designed and tested many socks. Their passion for quality, performance, customer service and respect for their customers has never changed. For these reasons, I think Dahlgren socks make great holiday gifts for men and women.
For my review, I received men’s Backpacking and Hiking socks and women’s Light Hiking and Transit Stripe Socks.
Dahlgren socks are made with Merino and Alpaca fibers. Marino is a soft and absorbent fiber. Alpaca is also an indulgent fiber; it provides insulation and is friction resistant. Dahlgren has a patented Dri-Stride System. It separates the sock into special zones. Each zone has a specific need and Dahlgren has a material or design to optimize comfort, durability and performance. Dahlgren socks are also equipped with Therma-Dri for quick moisture removal, reinforced toe and heels, flat seams and a special Y-heel construction for a better fit.
Men’s Backpacking socks are heavily cushioned throughout the entire sock for all-day comfort. These would be great for hiking, hunting and outdoor sports. My husband plans to wear these the next time he is working at a jobsite.
The Hiking socks feature moderate cushioning. They were designed with a new ventilation mesh in the leg for optimal cooling relief. These are great for casual wear, travel hiking and other outdoor sports. My husband wears these when he is working in the shop. They have kept his feet dry and helped to relieve/prevent back fatigue.
Women’s Light Hiking socks have targeted light cushioning and mesh ventilation. They have cushioning on the bottom of the sock while the rest of the sock is flat knit. The Light Hiking sock includes arch support to help reduce fatigue. I think these are great for casual wear, travel, hiking, running and outdoor sports. I have enjoyed wearing mine on our cold crisp fall mornings.
The Transit Stripe socks have targeted cushion under foot and flat knit on the rest of the sock. They are suited for casual wear, office wear and travel. They are really cute and comfortable.

Hello, my name is Laurie. My family and I live near the Oregon coast. When we aren’t at work, in school, or on the volleyball court, we enjoy traveling, cheering for our favorite sports teams, playing outdoors, and checking off items on our bucket list. We are lucky in that both sets of our parents, as well as our siblings and their families, live within an hour of us. We get together often to help one another out, celebrate milestones, and go on adventures together.
