*I was provided with Ripley’s books in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own.

HGGimage2013I try to include a book with gifts that I give to kids. I remember being in fifth grade and being so tired of the boys in our class complaining about the books that we read. I loved all of the books that we were required to read in the class so their complaining annoyed me. Then one day I kind of realized that it seemed like most of the books we read covered topics that tend to be more interesting to girls. After that, I felt bad for the boys that the teachers didn’t assign more boy-friendly books. There are plenty of books out there that are of interest to boys and making them read tons of books that they don’t like as young children can squash their interest in books all together. It’s still sad to me. I have six nephews ages 3-9 so I’m always excited to get the chance to check out boy-friendly books and that’s exactly what Ripley’s books offer.

Each year they put out a big, thick, high quality book full of yucky, gross, amazing, bizarre facts, accomplishments, etc. This year’s book is called Dare To Look – I reviewed it here in September. The Ripley’s annual books always interest my nephews and even the adult men in my family. They’re great for hesitant or reluctant readers because instead of having to read them from to back, you can pick and choose which parts to read seems how they are composed of a bunch of tiny stories and quick facts. My older (8 and 9) year old nephews will love these books I’m sure.

Ripley’s Kids Fun Facts & Silly Stories is somewhat similar to the annual books except its aimed at younger kids. There are weird, strange, neat things to look at and learn about but it doesn’t cover as much of the “gross” stuff. It has strange, interesting stuff like the picture shown of the worlds smallest pair of shoes. This makes it a great option for younger or more sensitive children. If you’re looking to include some books as gifts this year, especially for boys, teens or other kids who are harder to buy books for.
