Thank you Abeego and Hot Straw
for providing me with products to review, free of charge.
These are my own honest opinions.

earth pixababyThe kitchen is probably the one room in the house that is most likely full of single-use disposable products, from disinfecting wipes and paper towels to k-cups. Good news is, there are now tons of cool green kitchen products launched all the time! In fact, the two ‘going green’ products I have to present this week are both related to food.

The first item is quite unusual. What if I told you you could ditch cling wrap when storing leftover and preparing lunches? This is actually possible with Abeego wraps. These unique wraps are made of a blend of hemp and cotton fabric which is coated with a beeswax, tree resin and jojoba oil. The result is a slightly sticky wrap that adheres to solid surfaces such as bowls and plates and also sticks to itself. Oh and it smells amazing thanks to the beeswax and jojoba!Abeego wraps comes in a variety of sizes and designs and I suggest you get a variety pack with one small, one medium and one large wrap.

I find these wraps super easy to use. They are perfect to cover leftovers in plates or bowls. One thing to remember is that they will stiffen in the refrigerator so I would suggest you allow them to return to room temperate before you use them again (which only takes a few minutes) otherwise they won’t stick as well. I also find they are an ideal replacement for small containers used in lunchboxes for sandwiches, fruits, nuts, etc. I simply place my sandwich in the middle of my Abeego wrap and gently fold it over my sandwich making sure it sticks to itself. For grapes and nuts, I create a pouch which I fill with my favorite snacks and seal it. So far, I find these wraps do keep the shape that I give them but obviously, it’s important to remember than the material itself is soft so pack your lunch accordingly if you don’t want your sandwich to become as flat as a pancake!

In terms of care, because of the beeswax, tree resin and oil coatings, it is recommended to wash them in cold water with an alcohol-free soap (this is key because beeswax and tree resin are soluble in alcohol). They should not be soaked for extended periods of time nor wrung. Simply pat them dry or let them air dry.

I’ve been using my wraps for a few weeks and I truly love them! They work really well and they smell wonderful! It’s a great alternative if you’re trying to cut back on single-use products in your kitchen like cling wrap.

The second product is called Hot Straw. They are quite simply reusable plastic straws. They are BPA and Phatalate-free making them safe to use. They are designed specifically to drink hot beverages such as coffee or tea: the straw being made of plastic doesn’t get hot. It also works just as well for any cold drinks. Hot Straws come in 2 different sizes: Venti, which are 9” long and Grande, which are 7” long. They are offered in pink, red, blue, and green.

Hot Straws are not round, they have a slightly flat or oval shape which means they fit perfectly in the small opening on the lid of your favorite coffee shop latte or cappuccino! These straws are great to prevent spills. Also, the fact that the drink doesn’t come in contact with your teeth (or only minimally) protects them from the harsh effects of acidic drinks and prevent your teeth from getting stained.

Also, if you like to wear lipstick or gloss, you know that your cup with end up covered with it. When using a Hot Straw, your lipstick actually stays on your lips (or more of it at least)!

In terms of the eco-friendly factor, these straws are ideal to replace disposable straws. They are made to last and each one will effectively replace dozens of single-use straws. I suggest you keep some in your purse and lunch bag (you can get a special carry case when you purchase your Hot Straws). If you’re thinking ahead and are already looking for stocking stuffer ideas, I think Hot Straws would definitely be one of those practical yet fun items to include, especially for coffee lovers!
