I was sent an OxyLED TSP-02 Solar Motion light for review. All opinions are my own.

In my opinion, one of the biggest downsides to renting a home or apartment is simply being unable to customize it as much as we could if we owned our own home. The house that I am currently renting has a large yard for being within city limits. We have enjoyed having a space that feels our own outside, it’s so different feeling than going outside when we lived in an apartment complex.

The downside to our yard is we have no yard light. I am a night owl and my dogs stay up and go to bed whenever I do. This leaves me going outside with the dogs once or twice a day while it’s dark outside. I don’t like being unable to see them even though they stay away from the road. Plus, we sometimes get groceries after dark and it makes me a little nervous to walk in with my hands full when it’s dark outside.

Of course, installing a yard light isn’t an option when we are renting so I was excited to try a motion sensor solar-powered light. It comes with a screw that you add onto whatever surface you have access to and simply hang the light from the screw.

I was a bit surprised at how small the OxyLED TSP-02 Solar light is in person – it’s roughly as big as my hand. I was worried that it wouldn’t be nearly powerful enough for my need. I was surprised that it is more powerful than it appears. It lights up roughly a 3-4 foot area when placed a few feet off the ground. Of course, it’s a bit brighter in the area right next to the light and a bit dimmer as it spreads out. We park right in front of the door so having two of these would light up plenty of space in front of our house. If you were looking to light up a larger area or walkway you’d need one for every few feet. The lights are available on Amazon for $22.99 each or $39.99 for a two pack. Even if you needed several of these, they’d be a lot cheaper than hiring an electrician and installing a yard light. Plus, there is no cost to use because they are solar-powered.

The sensor is sensitive enough to pick up our movements right away – I never have to intentionally move around to get it to turn on. It’s nice to have the light available when we need it without having to remember to turn it off or on.

Do you use solar power in your home? I’d love to hear how it adds convenience to your life.
