For the last few years I’ve been following the blog Praying For Noah. Noah is now 5, loves volcanos, dragons and sea creatures. He has a mitrocondrial disorder. Of course, all of our cells contain mitochondria and because noah’s don’t work correctly, this means that various parts of his body will stop working correctly. His body never produces enough energy to keep all parts of his body functioning at the same time, so his body will put certain areas at a higher priority, and then the non-prioritized portions quit working correctly. Mito has no cure, and no treatment. He has progressively gotten more ill and is now near the end of his life. His family has put together a group called noah’s hands of hope that aims to help other families with children with mito. Because mito children spend a lot of time in the hospital, they want to put together busy bags of small, quiet toys for children to play with while hospitalized or while in the doctors office or waiting rooms. They also want to provide families with memory making kits for doing crafts that can be treasured long term such as hand print kits. They also are setting up ways to provide support to the healthy siblings of children affected with mito, because of course, the entire family is influenced when one child is very sick.
Starting Wednesday 3/28 at 12:01 am, there will be an online auction for Noah’s hands of hope. The money made from the auction will go to purchase craft kits and other items mentioned above, to support families with mito. Noah’s hands of hope has a long waiting list of children who are hoping to get support from this organization, but right now there isn’t enough money to purchase the items needed. They are currently accepting cash donations or item donations. I have an etsy shop so I donated an item from my shop. Once the auction is over the organization will keep the money that was made on my item, and i’ll simply have to ship the item to the person who won it. Seems how my handmade monsters retail for around 10.00 each, and shipping will cost me 1-2 dollars, this is a great way to donate to a great cause without having to spend a lot of money. All donated items must be submitted via the donation form by 8pm on march 27th. Of course, it would also help if you are interested in bidding on items between march 28th and april 1st.
