For most of his life, my dad worked various jobs that were hard on his body. When I was a kid he worked at a factory that made windows and sliding glass doors and he would have to pick them up regularly, for example. This isn’t good for your back especially if you do it regularly for years. Partially because of this heavy lifting, he fairly regularly “puts his back out” which causes him a lot of pain until he is able to have someone crack his back. When I was little my parents would pay for him to see a chiropractor. After several trips there, my mom realized that she could easily replicate what the chiropractor was doing so she began to fix his back at home. They divorced, so now my dad either asks me or one of my siblings to crack his back or he goes to the chiropractor seems how it’s only $8 per visit with his current insurance.

Ryan also struggles with back pain from time to time so I crack his back as well using the same method. I don’t have any major issues but from time to time it just feels really good to have your back cracked so sometimes he does mine for me. The only real back pain I deal with is occasional lower back pain that is more of a cramping type feeling than a true pain. When I get that I opt for a massage over cracking my back because my lower back never cracks. It’s funny how much good a massage can do though.

A lot of people claim that various types of beds and pillows can make a big difference in back pain. I’ve always wondered if these claims are true. It seems like every single mattress brand out there says that they have the perfect cure for back pain and that the other companies aren’t as good. I think the only real way to ever know for sure would be to try out the products. I’d like to try a Tempurpedic bed someday to see if they really help out.
