It’s funny how people of my own age, who grew up in my own area can have such different perspective on certain areas of life. For example, I had a friend in high school who was upset that she didn’t get a brand new car for her birthday. Instead, her parents bought her a car from a used car dealership. I suppose our families financial situations are what caused the difference in perspective, but I was surprised that any teenager would expect to be given a car — even a used car.
I’ve been told that even if you have a lot of money to spend, it makes sense to buy a used car. If you want a brand new car, shopping barely-used can save you a lot of money without really making any difference in the vehicle. Whether you’re looking for a used car dealership in Michigan or for used car dealers in MA, you can save a few thousand dollars by purchasing a used car that has less than 1,000 miles on it. For example, my brother bought a truck that had been used for drivers training but was less than 6 months old and only had a few hundred miles on it, yet it saved him a few thousand dollars because technically it wasn’t brand new. I’ve heard that just by driving a new car off of the lot, the value goes down by $1,000. This is silly because the car is the same car it was before leaving the lot, so why not buy used and save the difference?
Back in 2007 we purchased our truck which was 6 years old at the time. In the time we’ve owned it we only had to take it in for repair once and it hadn’t broken down but instead had just gotten really loud. That cost about $300 and of course, we’ve had to do little things like change the oil and wiper blades, etc but in all we’ve barely had to put any money into it aside from our regular car payments. About a year ago we looked up what it would be valued at now and were pleased that we didn’t owe more than it was worth. In all, it’s been a great purchase for us. Ryan’s brother is a mechanic so we had him check over the vehicle prior to purchasing it but buying used can be a great choice for a lot of people if you make sure that you get a dependable car.
This is a sponsored post for Prestige Automart, however, all the points and views are my own.
