I’ve saw a few news headlines recently about how many public schools in my state are struggling with funding. It seems like this has been a problem for several years now. I have a teenage niece who told me last school year that she wasnt’ able to bring her high school textbooks home because her class had to share the books with another set of kids who had the class at a different time. This made studying and doing homework much more difficult for her. I don’t want the children in my community to have to make sacrifices like that, which may hurt their grades and ultimately even their chance of success at getting into college or doing well in college.
I remembered my mom, grandma and aunts collecting General Mills® Box Tops For Education from various products that we bought when I was a child. I would turn these into a special box in my classroom and the teacher would turn them in and the school would get money in return. I was excited to learn that the General Mills® Box Tops program was still going. I was even more excited to learn that right now, select General Mills® items from Walmart have bonus box tops.
The next time that I made a trip to Walmart I kept an eye out for the “5 box tops” logo on foods and found several on items that my family loves and regularly uses. We purchased Yoplait Gogurt, FiberOne Streusel bars, FiberOne Mint Fudge Brownies and FiberOne Cinnamon Coffee Cake. All of these items are items that we love using as quick snacks and are great to take on the go during the busy back to school season. Plus, we got a total of 20 boxtops for purchasing these five items.
Keep an eye out the next time you’re at Walmart to find more items that have 5 bonus box tops. Some of the brands participating include General Mills cereals, FiberOne, Yoplait, Betty Crocker, Old El Paso, Mott’s, Chex Mix, SunKist, Totinos and Pillsbury. All items that have 5 bonus box tops will have the same black strip with pink/white “5” and blue/white “box tops” written on the package.
I love being able to help out our schools, especially in this current time of need by buying items that we regularly use and enjoy anyway, it’s truly a win-win situation.
Do you collect Box Tops to help your school out with funding?
