I walk into the kitchen and Ryan is scooping food from a plastic container into a glass one. I don’t really think over what he’s doing but he feels the need to explain.

“Yeah, so your paranoia has gotten to me”

“My paranoia?”

“Yeah. I was going to microwave this, but then I realized it was plastic. So I searched for a glass container instead”

Yay! Now we just need to invest in new bowls/containers so that we have more options for containers to microwave in and so that we can get rid of our plastic stuff eventually. Our big downside right now is bowls. We have 2 glass bowls and the rest are all plastic. I have four storage containers that are glass and we have been using those as bowls more so than actual storage containers, haha.  I should probably read up on good plastics vs bad ones – anyone know a rule of thumb for that? I’ve just been avoiding all of our plastic dishes as much as possible because I have no idea. Most of our dishes were donated to us from my extended family when we went out on our own. Which was great and we are thankful but most of the stuff is probably pretty old so I’m guessing they probably aren’t dishwasher or microwave or ‘hot stuff’ safe.

This post currently has one response.

  • If you are buying new plastic plastic containers, look for ones that say “BPA-free”. A lot of companies are realizing consumers desire for safer plastic and are changing/marketing accordingly.
Preserve makes some nice ones (in bright colors), which are also made from recycled plastic. I bought mine at Target, but they are online as well: http://www.preserveproducts.com
