At our local MOPS meeting this past week, the topic of the day was anger and frustration and how we deal with it (whether it’s our own or our children’s.)  One of the discussion questions asked what time of day do you experience the most anger or frustration.  Every single mom at my table said bedtime was definitely the hardest time with the most frustration and struggle.  Over the years, we’ve had our fair share of bedtime struggles but we’ve found several things that seem to help our family.

First off, there’s routine.  And by routine, I don’t even necessarily mean that bedtime as to be at the exact same time each night.  Everyone know life throws curve balls so even though we try to stay on track, some times it gets a little later than we’d like.  But no matter how late it gets, we’ve found that still following our bedtime routine of teeth brushing, bathroom break, water drinks, and finally ending with some bedtime story reading makes it smooth(er) sailing.

Once in bed and tucked in, our kids have let us know that they don’t much care for complete darkness.  So we have found the use of a nightlight to work well.  The OxyLED Sensor Nightlight has been a great choice for us.  Sold as a set of two, these nightlights feature:

  • Rotating Head
  • Intelligent Light Sensor
  • Energy Saving AC Power Socket
  • Long Lifespan Up To 50,000 Hours
  • Compact Design

I really like the sleek design but my favorite feature is how it slowly gets brighter the darker the room gets, offering up just the right amount of light as needed.

The other major thing that we’ve found to beat off the bedtime blues is to let the kids read for 10 minutes after we tuck them in and say good night.  The problem with that laid in the fact that someone would then have to crawl out of bed to turn off the big light.  So we’ve found a better way through the use of OxyLED Rechargeable Headlamps.  This model is packed full of great features including:

  • USB Rechargeable (that means NO batteries!)
  • Red Lense Setting For Easy Visibility (solid or flash settings)
  • Water Resistant
  • Powerful Beam (up to 300 feet of 200 lumen superbright light)
  • Adjustable Headband
  • Tilting Light
  • USB Cable Included
  • 3 White Light Settings (dim, bright, & flashing)
  • Easy To Use

We have tried out several different headlamps over the past couple of years and this OxyLED really stands out.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE the fact that it’s rechargeable and doesn’t drain my pocketbook through replacement batteries.  And the fact that it has a dim and bright option makes it great for the kids.  They can use the dim when in bed reading but have the option of bright when outside past dark or camping.  Overall, amazing product that is currently on sale for $9.99!

I like the idea of a head lamp. It seems like you are giving the child a little more control and I am sure they like that. I like that it is rechargeable too.

They are neat ideas. The head lamp for kids has me wondering will the kids want to take them off at night?

    • Hi Deborah,

We set a timer for 10 minutes (or less depending on the day) and once the buzzer goes off, they have to take the lights off and go to sleep. I don’t think I’d allow them to use as long as they like as then there would be the possibility of them falling asleep with the light still on their head….. This just gives them the freedom of being able to read in bed and not have to crawl out of their covers to turn off the big light any more.

I really love that you “” let the kids read for 10 minutes after we tuck them in and say good night” This will help them learn to love reading.

The headlamp! I am stealing this and buying them for Easter gifts for my nieces.
