I’m a small person. Although I don’t mind being short at all, it’s weird for me to say that I’m small. I think it’s because I don’t think of myself as small, it’s just that everyone else is large. Though I know that isn’t true, I guess that’s just my view. Haha.
Anyway, I’m also a college student, and when you’re 5 foot tall and have wore the same size clothes since you were 12, it’s a lot to carry a backpack full of college textbooks up four flights of steps, it’s not fun. With my old backpack, that was half falling apart, that I had had for four years or so, the straps dug into my shoulders and hurt my back, by the time I got about mid way up the third set of steps. I knew I needed a new backpack.
When I got the chance to work with High Sierra I jumped at it, because I had heard of their brand before and knew that they made hiking backpacks and such, and figured they probably make better backpacks than the 15 dollar ones I’ve bought at wal mart in the past. I chose the steadfast backpack.
I used this backpack for the last couple weeks of school and it made a huge difference. Although I still had a ton of books, that were super heavy, and still had to get to the top of the fourth floor, I wasn’t in pain of any sort when I got to the top. I just wish I had this bag back in August, instead of suffering almost the entire school year.
One of the steadfast’s features includes adjustable straps that connect the straps. I’m sure you’ve seen them that go across the chest, on regular backpacks. Although they might be ‘nerdy’ I really love them because they adjust the weight of the backpack so much. This bag has two sets of straps, and they are both adjustable, so you can have one above your chest, across your chest or below, and then you can adjust the lower strap to sit higher or lower on your hips. These really help to balance out the weight of the bag, and when I would walk home from school I would always use these. I can imagine them being adored even more if using this bag to walk long distances, camp, hike, etc.
Overall I’m really pleased with my new bag and I’m sure it will last me a long time.
