There are so many great toys out there to consider for the holidays. Many parents opt for plastic toys because they are cheaper. However, I have found that when you pay a little extra and go with wooden toys, it’s definitely worth your money in the long run. They don’t break or fade and you don’t have to worry about all those plastic broken toys that you threw away sitting in a landfill forever. I’ve seen many great wooden toys but the toys at jack rabbit creations are really exceptional. I have two nephews who are brothers, they are 2.5 and 4. I was sent the magnetic covered wagon for them to review. Please note that this toy is intended for children who are 3+ only, but because my nephew hasn’t been one to put things in his mouth for some time, and because we were watching him we did let him play along with this toy and he just loved it.
The boys are an awful lot of fun but they are of course boys and little so they can be pretty rough on things. Wooden toys are really great for little boys in particular, they stand up so much better to rough play. When the set first arrived Ryan said he thought the boys might be turned off by the cowboys because they are pretty thick and they stay in the ‘riding a horse’ position, because they are used to playing with really realistically shaped dolls/figures that are flexible. I said I didn’t think so, because at their ages they have such great imaginations and such. It turns out that they didn’t even seem to notice at all. I think sometimes we get so used to only accepting completely realistic objects that we forget how imaginative and open minded little kids are. The cowboys and horses do seem thick but I think this works great for them because they are easier to use during the toddler/preschool years when their fine motor skills are still developing. The boys live on a small farm and love cowboys so they really loved this set. I think their favorite part is the covered wagon (how often can you find a covered wagon toy at wal mart? Um- never!) as well as the ability to put the cowboys on the horses. My 4 year old nephew commented about how well they sat on the horses, because his other figures don’t ever stay on his horses. The horses have small magnets in their back and the cowboys have magnets that let them stay firmly attached onto the horse. They also have magnets on their feet so that they can stay in position in various places on the wagon.
