Sometime in middle school I realized that I had a flat, brown mole that basically resembled a large freckle, that was slightly above my ear. I basically forgot about it until a couple of days ago, when I went to put my hair back and my finger caught against it, and I realized that it was now raised out of the skin a lot, and that it was pink instead of brown. I guess any time that a mole changes color or appearance, it’s a bad sign. So I made a doctors appointment. She said it looked like a benign one, but seems how it had changed, that lead to her to think it isn’t benign. So she said she could cut off a sample of it, or just take all of it off. It was really small, around the size of a pencil eraser. So I thought it would be silly to have her take a sample. She agreed so she took it off. I had no idea that she could give me a numbing shot in my head. It worked though. I got two stitches, and go back next week to have them taken out. Kinda gross.

Ouch! I don’t bother with having the docs remove our stitches, they are super easy to remove! But you’ll have to go in for results anyway? I hope it is benign.

Stitches are so easy to get out! You won’t be able to see it yourself up there, so just have someone snip them and then pull it out. A tweezers will help to pull up the stitch enough to snip with a scissors, make sure to only snip one side so all the thread comes out. 🙂 Hair scissors work great, or a pair with a pointed tip. Then use the tweezer to pull it out. We have 7 kids, so know quite a bit about stitches. 🙂 We’ve only once been tempted to go in to have them removed, and that was because the skin grew around the stitch and our daughter was SO freaked out that we couldn’t even change the band aid unless she was out cold! It took us two days with a finger nail clipper and tweezers to get 4 stitches out while she slept, lol. But we did it.

Ouch! I’m glad you went ahead and had them remove the whole thing – if not, there’s a good chance you’d have had to go back to remove the rest, even if it is benign. I’ve had to have 12 of them removed so far because of changes in color, size, etc., and I’ve always been advised to remove all of it, plus a bit of skin around it just to make sure it doesn’t grow back. On the bright side, they heal quickly 🙂
