With the holiday season comes all kinds of yummy treats from sugar cookies to pumpkin pie to candy canes. When I was approached with the chance to try baklava, I was interested. Both Ryan & I had heard of baklava but neither of us really knew anything about it other than it was a treat. It looked yummy from the website picture so we were happy to give it a try. The images were right, it is yummy. It’s not quite what I expected though. The baklava appears to be tons and tons of layers of tiny pieces of paper with some glaze over them. The texture is very unique. We received an assorted box of baklava and between Ryan and I we liked all of the types of baklava included. While they could easily be told apart by taste, they all shared a general taste as well. The closest I can think to describe it as, is a combination of butterscotch and a glaze donut. They definitely have a very sweet, sugary taste to them and I found it hard to eat more than a piece or two at a time as it was just too sweet. I am sensitive to rich sweets though, and rarely manage to finish an entire sugary donuts or piece of cake.
So while neither of us can compare the sinbad sweets baklava to homemade baklava, we both thought it was good and were thankful that we had given it a try. In addition to baklava, sinbad sweets also sells macaroons, tarts and other sweets.
Buy it: You can purchase from sinbad sweets online at swinbadsweets.com.
Win it: An assortment of baklava from sinbad sweets
