Wow, if you’ve been to college or sent a child off to college it probably only took a few days to take the first trip to the bookstore and realize how much books were going to cost. I’d guess that aproximately half of the textbooks i’ve needed for classes have cost 100.00 or more at the bookstore. When you need five or six books per semester, the cost can get out of hand really quickly. At community college, it only costs about 800 dollars a semester to attend the classes. So paying 500 dollars in books seems really outrageous.
MatchBooks is a neat concept that aims to prevent students from having to buy expensive textbooks. Matchbooks takes high quality information that is available freely, and combines it in order by chapter so that all the same information is provided to you, without having to purchase a textbook. These matched-books even include the same keywords as your textbook.
Currently, only one book is available on the site but if you or someone yo know is taking an introductory psychology class that requires the book called Psychology (myers 9th edition) they can get the matchbook for it for free.
Of course, overtime matchbook plans to add in many more matchbooks so that more students are able to use the matchbooks instead of paying for the textbooks that they are assigned for class. If matchbook were to get a matchbook for every colelge textbook that a student needed, they could save 2,000 in the four semesters that they spend working towards an associates degree alone. 2,000 extra dollars would definitely come in handy to most independent young college students. With 2,000 extra to spend on other things they could get a better car, pay a few months rent or a million other things.
To learn more about matchbook you can check out the site at matchurbooks.com and be sure to check out Flat World Knowledge on Facebook as well.
Why do you think matchbook could be helpful for you or someone you know?
